my 1991 Camaros door sticker has a little bit of primer on it and i can make out that it says 05/90. so May 1990? but wouldn't it be a 1990 because its before the 6th month? can anybody clear this up?

It is may of 90. It is just a early build car. The last 6 of the vin will give you the sequence number.

Due to the licensing of the IROC nameplate expiring December 31st 1989, all 1990 models were built before the end of December 1989. The 1991 cars were being built earlier than normal to provide dealers with Camaros. The entire 1991 run was extended from early 1990 to mid 1991. Your car is an early build of the '91 model.

The same applies to 1991 Firebirds; generally, "next year" models don't start getting built until August or September, but the 1991 production year started very early for F-Bodies. The door jamb sticker on my '91 T/A shows a build date of April 1990.

According to the White Book, they started selling the 1991s in March 1990. So presumably, they began building them in January or February, no?
