Stupid "What's my car worth" thread
Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but please help me.
I am looking to sell an 82 Trans Am, and need some advice. Looking to sell it to finance the rebuild of an '83 T roof Trans Am.
I'll be as honest as I can. Some people say this car doesn't exist, but I've been told by a few people who seem to know about these cars that this one is extremely rare. I've checked VIN # and it is listed as a Trans Am, not an SE. I've been told it is actually a Trans Am/SE which is very uncommon (or so I'm told).
82 Trans Am. Black. No rust or rot anywhere, but body has many dings and puck marks, is sorta lumpy, may have been hit once in the front and repaired with an aftermarket fender. Coupe, not a T-roof. 305 4BBL, automatic. Car has power windows, locks, seat, and rear window wiper. All original (mostly), about 80K miles. Been painted once, very bad job. Original motor, trans, everything. Has the PMD open headrest bucket seats, interior is complete and freshened up (new seat covers, carpet, headliner, etc....). No missing parts. All A/C parts reinstalled but non-functional. Clean motor, runs 100%, drives nice. Has all 4 "turbine" wheels with reconditioned black hubcaps. Turbo Hood.
Tachometer works when it wants to. Headlight motors do not work at all. All other electronics are 100%, including rear wiper. Has original radio in it.
Essentially, the car needs finished bodywork and paint. Weatherstrips replaced, drives nice.
Any idea what this is worth?
I've been told this car doesn't exist. I've been told that it would either be an SE or a Trans Am. But I've talked to a few people who told me that, while unusual, you could order a Trans Am SE if you had the money, but it would be rare.
Suggestions?

1200-2500
People will value it differently depending on what the prices of 3rd gens are around them.

The Special Edition Trans Am for 1982 was the "Recaro Edition" which came with factory installed Recaro seats along with gold accents on the wheels and Pontiac emblems. Production was limited to 2000 cars.
PMD seats mean you have a plain Trans Am with the optional deluxe interior. One of many cars just like it.
I agree with _Nick_, it sounds like you have a $1200-2500 drivable project car. It will just depend on what the economy and market is like in your area.

Okay, thanks. I'll see if I can get some pictures uploaded.
Being in New England, 3rd gens that aren't rusted to pieces aren't common, but then again, they aren't really desirable either (yet).
Would rather be realistic than look like a fool when it goes up for sale.
Just out of curiosity....I was told that the rear window wiper is unusual. It's the only one I've seen with this. Anyone know if this was a common option, or part of a package?
Thanks!

Rear wiper is fairly common on '82s. It was standard equipment on the '82 Firebird S/E and optional on the base Firebird and Trans Am. It seems like a lot of '82 Trans Am owners optioned it.
The rear wiper was available from '82-86. Its far less common during the '84-86 years.

the turbine rims with original hubcaps can be worth up to $1000 (maybe a little more) by themselves for the 15" set, about $600 for the 14"
that's what i see on ebay from time to time.
