Boy, what a strong response. I think its kind of cool and not THAT ugly. Saying its a waste of a trans am is quite a statement, given the fact that this thing just bolts on...
For this concept to really be functional, gm should have done something about flattening out the trunk floor.

That car is nothing more than a regular 1985 T/A with a different hatch.. The only claim to fame is that the hatch was designed and installed by GM as a prototype. Whether it's appealing or not, I think $110K is WAY too much money..

Yea it's just a 85 TA,but it's a one of a kind 85 TA !!!I think they only produced what, four and they were only test models that seemed to escape GM's stock piles.Me.I personally like it and would love to own one.

I'd love to have a lightweight Kammback hatch that could bolted on, even if it required the sail panels & roof being reinforced.

Sorry Milner,No offense intended. I wasnt the first one to call it ugly and my comment wasnt any stronger than some of the others. I didnt say the car should be crushed, that would be a "strong" reaction.
I know the hatch just bolts on,but the whole idea both stylistically and functionally doesnt work. There is a reason it never went into mass production.
A Trans Am was never intended to look like a family truckster. That hatch throws off the sleek, flowing lines of the car.
Even if we look at it from a functional standpoint, there is no advantage to the conversion.it doesnt really increase storage space by much and were someone to actually put anything back there it block rear visibilty completely.
Sports/Muscle cars are not practical cars and a Trans am wasnt meant to be or look like a station wagon.
I also agree,I think the guy is nuts asking $110k for it.
Check out how bad it makes the fourth gen look.

Lol, no offense even remotely taken, and hope the same is likewise. My "strong response" statement was meant to refer to the cumulative response of everyone.
I agree with your flowing lines statement. The factory notchbacks have kind of a rare-cool factor, but they break up the great flowing profile our cars have. This thing definitely does the same, and with the same irregular trunk floor as every other production model, you only gain a marginal increase in utility.
Something is worth only what someone is willing to spend on it. Some people go apeshit over factory 1 of 1 experimental/concept cars.

Re: Is this the most expensive 3rd gen
This one looks a "tad" better, yet it's still not a good look.
Thought I'd share this one.
Now i know there was the one Camaro produced with the LT5 engine retrofitted with the corvette suspension to handle the amount of power it produced. It was once offered on ebay for $120,000. It had a hideous paint scheme. Purple an yellow with matching leather interior etc....

Re: Is this the most expensive 3rd gen
Yes, I believe they painted it and did it up with GTA components. There are pictures of a black/silver one as well, so that may be the repaint car and this may be a 2nd. Someone truly in the know can chime in and straighten me out, but I really feel like one of these kammbacks was repainted and updated.

Re: Is this the most expensive 3rd gen
My apologies, however I didn't ask and my opinion still stands. That paint job is not a good representation of the 80's. Love the car EXCEPT the color scheme.
Now this car deserves a crazy price tag. NOT the one in the Auto Trader add.....

Um yeah $125K LOL! I wonder how far this car is way from my house as I live in OH. I would love to see it in person. I might just have to look and see.

As ugly as the Kammback may be, it's a pretty significant piece of thirdgen history. If I had the money and the space to collect special thirdgens, and if it was more appropriately priced (like what it sold for last time), I'd be all over it... after I got my 88 1LE IROC, 92 Firehawk, TTA, 86 L69 T5 IROC, and a few others.

Looks like I'm a little late, but this has been posted here recently....it appears that Pro Team still hasn't figured out that 2011 is over (Year End Sale at end of desc (!)).

Re: Is this the most expensive 3rd gen
Considering what people have done to third gens over the years (this site include), I think it was a good idea that didn't work. You have to try. You win some and you lose some. The idea of getting more room in these cars at the time was high on the list but they came to the realization that the car was what it is and if you wanted more room you had to sacrifice performance. Or you waited and bought a typhoon.
