Rare enough to keep stock?
I read the "before asking" thread, and I know my car is about 1 of 6 grand in it's base form so I know it's not rare in that sense, but I was just curious if it's options make it rare enough to keep stock. (I'm not worried about selling it, I just want to know if I should preserve it and buy something else to toy with it, or just go crazy with it.
It's a 1991 Z-28 with an L98 built in Van Nuys. It has about 37k on the odo.
Options that I thought important:
1SD- Package 04
N10 - Dual Cats/ Exhaust package
KC4- Oil Cooler
J65- 4-Wheel disc
G80/G92- Perf Diff w/ Posi
FE2- Suspension Package (is this what manifests the sway-bars and bushings?)
C60- A/C
B2L - Performance Package (or is this where the performance suspension components come from?)
N96- 16x8 Alum. Rims (Originals are back on the car, no longer have the AR's in the sig pic)
I'm just genuinely curious about my car. Any help would be appreciated
Also, I don't understand what these RPO codes refer to:
9NL,8NL, 6ZW,7ZW. They read as "Computer Selected Spring, and then a position" What do these mean?

It's unusual enough that you're not going to see a bunch of them around. Personally, modified cars always end up looking like so much cobbled together junk, while in stock form these cars really work well. The other side of that double edged sword is that TPI cars don't even react well to modifications.
If you want something faster, it's easier to just go buy something faster. If you're going to try your hand at cobbling something together, might as well start with any of the number of beater grade thirdgens out there. I'd probably leave a car with that mileage alone.
RPO codes exist so that when dealerships serviced the cars, they could order the right parts. The spring codes tell the dealership which springs came in the car, so that if they needed a spring for your Z28, you got one for a Z28, not a V6 RS. The numbers indicate the position, because sometimes the left and right springs have different rates. NNL and BZW springs are pretty common for FE2 cars, they're the same springs you'll find under virtually every WS6 Firebird, Irocz Camaro, etc.

Re: Rare enough to keep stock?
I would leave it stock, there are other high mile 3rd Gens available for cheap that can be modified.

I'd try and keep it mostly stock...maybe catback exhaust and cold air intake, but anything else and you're opening up a can of worms. Like Drew said, there's only so much you can do with an L98 without completely changing the TPI setup, and then you're out $2K+ for an aftermarket EFI setup. At that point I'd just do an LS1 swap, but then you're talking changing out harnesses and trying to get all the accessories to work, which can be a nightmare.

Re: Rare enough to keep stock?
Keep it stock. Add a catback, maybe a CAI, and leave it. If you ran a 14 flat with it, you've pretty much got a strong performing L98 the way it sits. Why mess with it? Or, hell, sell it to me! I'm sure my wife would LOVE for me to bring home another third gen...

Don't hack it up with dubious "mods". JMHO.
