IROC-Z or Sport coupe?
I have a 1988 camaro that i've owned since 2007 and have been recently fixing it up. I just did the floors and am now reassembling the interior (pictures will be up soon). Before putting the carpet in I pressure washed it and lets just say ewww. At one point it looked as if blood was coming out of the freakin thing and I know that it has a salvage title so I decided to look up the history of the car to see exactly what happened. I typed in my VIN and in every website I typed it into it keeps coming up with my car being an IROC-Z coupe. Now this is news to me because I always figured my car was just an IROC wanna be seeing as it has the hood, rims etc. and also because the motor in this car is the 305 tbi and i've been told that Irocs only came tpi but after doing a little research i found that the code L03 means for irocs 5.0 tbi but it also means the same for sport coupes. Now the question is how can I tell for sure that I have an IROC Z or a sport coupe because looking at the car its like half and half haha. It would be pretty awesome if its a legit IROC but i have a feelin its a just a coupe Any advice would be great

There's no way to tell if it's an IROC from the VIN, you'd need the RPO codes.

Re: IROC-Z or Sport coupe?
It should either say Z28 or B4Z as one of the codes and either of those makes it an Iroc. From 85-87 an Iroc would have the codes B4Z and Z28, but from 88-90 they just had Z28 becasue they dropped the Z28 and replaced it with the Iroc.

Everybody thinks they dropped the Z from 88-90, but they dropped the IROC-Z option and it became standard.

Re: IROC-Z or Sport coupe?
Just to clear this up. GM didn't drop the Z28 in 1988. You said so above. The RPO tells you what the car was. The IROC-Z option was dropped in 1988 and all Z28s had the IROC-Z package as standard now. The Z28 designation was still used on the car and the RPO to get the top end Camaro was Z28.
