Factory Recaro seats in a 87camaro?

I picked up a set of these seats out of an 87 camaro for 100$, it wasn't an iroc and it was all decked out with the over head console inbetween the T tops. They look like recaros from Trans ams the head rest not padded and has a hole through it, the driver seat is power and it had a factory connector. Their goin in my 91 firebird. I've never seen them before, and I've been through a lot of junkyards. I can't post ics I will soon, did camaros get recaros?

No... They got Lear Siegler "contour" seats, which basically look like stock custom cloth seats, but with several adjuster *****. They look nothing like Recaros, but were the only optional, upgraded seat.

L/S seats...

Recaro seats were optional on some early Firebirds, up to about 86. They'll have the "Recaro" logo in the front of the seat back, so they're hard to misidentify.

Early Firebirds also were available with PMD seats, which often get called "Recaros" because people get confused. They have a one piece seat-back/headrest, with a hole in the middle. Easily identified by a "PMD" logo in the front of the seat back. PMD = Pontiac Motor Division.

Here's a pic showing the PMD and factory Recaros side by side...

Another seat that often gets confused with "Recaro" seats is the early Fox Mustang sport seat. They're a Ford knock off of the Recaro, with a similar headrest. The same style seat also came in Escort GT's and other Ford products. The headrests find their way onto other seats from time to time.

Ford sport seats...

Of course there's nothing to say someone didn't buy a set of Recaro seats and install them in a Camaro. If they're Recaros, they'll probably say so...

They are the ford seats, they bolt right in, look jus like ur pics thank you. They still look good, much more comfy than base model bird seats. The driver side is power, it was hooked up in the camaro I pulled em from. I cut the connector with both ends still attached, got to get some power to em see if they work, they fit perfect.

Re: Factory Recaro seats in a 87camaro?

Did anyone else notice that the center console's lid/hinge is facing the driver in Drew's picture of the '82 Recaro T/A's interior ? I doubt it was part of the Recaro Edition, since it would be really difficult for the driver to open the lid.
Someone "flipped the negative", or reversed the digital image, I hope. ;o)

I think you're right... If you look closely, the badge on the seats says "ORACER" too... LOL I'd guess someone flipped the image so they'd be facing the same direction...

Just my luck I was curious if they were recaro's as I have a pair and would like to make them power. One of these days I will buy a complete power track setup and try it. I am not sure about the plastic for the switch mounting.

Drew, I suspected that it looked like "Recaro" started w/an "o", but my eyes aren't as good as yours. Glad we both had a chuckle about it.
