Deciphering options/eqpt codes
Starting restoration on our 84 Camaro Z-28, bought it new. On the underside of the console lid is a factory original sticker listing all (?) of the options and eqpt codes for the car, a LOT of them, it was pretty fully loaded - can someone give me a reference source or book or source for buildsheets, or thirdgen thread or set of searchwords, to get me started in deciphering all of them - also, same general question re the codes on the metal tag on top of the radiator top crosspiece/support? THX!!

Re: Deciphering options/eqpt codes
THANKS !!! - that was a great lead, and an interesting exercise in finding out what all the car included. Seven RPO codes returned a message of Code Not Found - 59L, YE4, E6N, 92P, 17C, GE8, and GE9 - I doublechecked the numbers and letters, they are copied and entered correctly - anyone help on these???? also, three other codes returned ??? as a response - YT9, B9K, and 1AY - any help on these??? A couple of other inconsistencies also showed up, make me curious - code 59U says Primary Color Exterior Orange Met (92), but I bought the car new off the showroom floor and it is a Van Nuys original water based Beige factory paint job. Also code GT4 says Axle Rear 3.73 Ratio, and code Y06 says Ring Gear 9.50 inch Saginaw (SPO) - but the original factory rear end is a standard Chevy 10 bolt with 3.08 gears ( I added an Eaton posi several years ago). This is a late model year production car, does that make any difference?? this project gets more interesting the more I learn about it. THX for your help.. bob y

Re: Deciphering options/eqpt codes
Some RPO codes actually have nothing to do with the car, but they are about paperwork. Might be soemthing as insignificant as a special price for an option combination, or some special paperwork required by a certain state. I suspect thats what your missing RPO codes might be.

1AY: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...stion-1ay.html
GM reuses RPO codes and the RPO codes in the decoder are not Thirdgen specific.
GT4 should be 3.73s, so not sure what to say about that one.

59U: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...des-84-ta.html
A simple search revealed all of these answers, good chance you can search for the rest of the missing definitions to find the answers you are looking for.

Re: Deciphering options/eqpt codes
Anytime you see a code with a number in parenthesis after the definition, it means that definition only applies to that year. It's a hint that for other years it might mean something different. The most common occurrence is (91) which means that in 1991 that code had that definition.
Another thing to keep in mind... 84-87 cars have a ton of codes. After 87, GM started to package options. For that reason some earlier codes are harder to find definitions for, or were phased out in later years.
