Dealer Parts Catalog on its way!
So i have been looking for a detailed parts manual for a while now and i came across this one on ebay today and decided to buy it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT
The guy was asking $99.95 + shipping, but was taking best offers, so I sent some offers. Ended up paying full price after all was said and done but I guess it never hurts to try and get a deal.
Anyone else have one of these? I want to know how big of a help they are and if there is something better out there.

I have one of these. I am wondering if what you bought has any more info, than on the CD.

I'm thinking they are the same thing I just have the dealer hard copy version. Oh and the fact that I paid 5 times more for mine LOL!
When it gets here i will post some better pics.

Most of the part numbers listed are discontinued or they've been superseded. Most of the exploded diagrams are online at compnine.com. The hardcopy manuals seem to be getting harder to find, I've never been able to justify the price and they keep getting higher.

The diagrams on compnine are good but the part listings are not complete. I'm restoring my iroc and need a comprehensive listing of everything and the book I bought will have that. I also have an assembly manual so that should fill the gaps.

Trust me I tried to get it for less but the guy wouldn't budge on the price or shipping. I also have been looking for awhile online with no luck. I would have preferred a CD or digital version, but everyone I found wasn't complete.
I have thought about scanning in my body assembly manual, along with this one when it shows up, and making a super reference manual available on CD or DVD. I don't know what the copyright issues would be, but it would be worth it to a lot of people on this site alone.

That is my whole point for spending the money and buying these books. I bought my cars used of course and some of the PO's have done thinks to fix them that are not correct. How else am I going to know how this car was put together when I'm in my garage at midnight.

I stole mine... I got them on microfiche for like $20 a few years back... Its useless unless you have a Microfiche reader, fortunately I do.
I also have the Firebird one in Paper...
Honestly it solves many an argument on the boards. its as official as official gets, however it can be in error on occasion, but rarely.

Re: Dealer Parts Catalog on its way!
Yes I also have a shop manual and assembly manual, but neither one will tell me what each part is. Actually I want to know is what is supposed to be there and the corresponding part number for that item.
Now I understand that most of these parts have been discontinued, but at least i will know how it came from the factory. My IROC is 25 years old, has had six previous owners and that makes me lucky number seven. I'm also not a professional mechanic or body man, but i want to do as much as i can on my own.
From what I'm gathering I over paid for the book, but hey no use crying about it now. Plus they aren't making these anymore and you never know what your going to get from a reprint or CD copy. I am planning on scanning the entire book with acrobat and putting on my laptop as I have done with the other books I have.

Re: Dealer Parts Catalog on its way!
One nice thing about owning one of those is you can go to a junkyard and look at a 1983 and know that it will or will not fit a 1991. Some people think they are a waste, but when you know that yes, the part is the same, then you are better informed.
Sometimes I have found that a part may be interchangeable, or one is better than the other. For example the early cars had an aluminum front bumper brace, the later cars do not... I have been told that they are interchangeable. Sometimes you have to look at the pieces and parts around the part you want to see if they are the same... For example, if you know that everything that attaches to the part is the same, then chances are it will fit, it may not be "right" but it will fit.

Re: Dealer Parts Catalog on its way!
Well the big ol' book showed up today and it is exactly what I was looking for. So at this point in time i really don't care that I paid $100 for it.
Now I should have no problem tearing the IROC apart and putting it back together the way it was supposed to be in the first place.
