well ive been really dumb and my car hasnt been legal in the state of missouri so I never got around to registering it. Well I wanted to do that but I was looking at the title and it only has 16 digits.

The car has 17 I've checked. and they all match up on the title but its missing one. like someone had a typo. I fear this is going to cause me a major issue because ive had the car over a year. and I bought it from a guy in kansas 6 hours away from me................... I think I ****ED up big time here.

the title wasnt dated thats why I didnt register it right away...............

please any info on what to do? I'm afraid to go to the dmv and hear what they say.

 

I don't think you have a choice but to go to the DMV and see what they say.

Hopefully they can understand it's a typo, and track the title history back to where the typo was made.

 

What is the VIN # on the dash plate? Does it match the VIN on paper title?

 

I had a VIN error on a car I bought. The car was right, of course, and the paperwork was wrong. Took it to the DMV, they verified it, fixed it, and I was on my way.

 

I had a car and the VIN was listed wrong on the Title, I went to the DMV (Secretary of State here in MI) and they simply issued me another Title with the correction.. of course they charged me, but it worked out alright.

 

The standard 17 digit vin didn't start [wasn't enforced] till the mid to late 80.

I got an 80 Buick, 86 Bird and 82 Yamaha all with less then 17, its typical.

only problem is when you try to do stuff like quick insurance quotes or vin look ups, as they are all programged for the standard 17 digit vin.

Never had a single problem doing a title or gettiing insurance.
