Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

Why should it be in a museum? It's a nice car and should be driven and enjoyed. My car is 5 years older than this one and has about 4k more miles. Should mine be in a museum? I know I'm irresponsible because when I drive mine, it gets driven. The last 8500 miles have been very hard miles for this car. My thought is why should I replace the tires just because their old? Might as well need to be replaced for other reasons also!!

I wouldn't pay anywhere near his asking price, but its a nice car. Too bad the original owner saved a car with that horrible of a color scheme... hehehehe

Just think what you could do to your own cars with $25000. We all would have showroom cars?

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

The seller seems to be a bigger fan of the interior/exterior colour combo than me. It's OK, but not my first pick. Also what's he talking about by . . . "Second only to the bizarrely-named "Dark Bright Teal" in 1992"?
What's does second only refer to? Also the '92 teal was called Dark Teal Metallic. Not bizarre at all. Nasty pinstripe too.

PS; He should get a job writing for TV infomercials. I'd buy a dozen Slapchops and maybe even a ThighMaster off that guy!

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

That car should be no where close to a museum, The stripe is wrong, the little bowie on the GFX is wrong, the stickers under the hood are wrong.

Besides where are the original floor mats? The car originally came with them... Even if they were trashed it would be nice to at least get the little GM emblem off of them.

After that, and once you wipe all of the Armor all off of the leather, it might be ready for a museum. But like Scott, I think drive it a little, about 200 miles a year at least.

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

A jem Yes... I am usually not keen on Gold cars, but it really looks nice.
Unfortunately I assume it was not driven much because it really was not very fun to drive with the Duke 0 - 60 in 15 seconds, and 1/4 mile in 20?.

One thing that I see is With so little miles it appears to be a repaint, or at least parts repainted, there is usually a good reason, however there is no hood bird, or nose bird (of course it appears to be an S/E so there may not have been a bird). Also to nitpick the tires appear to be a bit larger than originals.

Everything about the wheels on that 82 Firebird scream incorrect... From the fact they're 15" 20-slots on a 4cyl, to the 2nd gen caps and chrome aftermarket lug nuts.

Just imagine how much better it'd look with some period correct Firebird wheels... Say a set of gold bowling ball caps.

I just checked and indeed... Those wheels appeared in 1984. I would think that the car originally had 14" wheels...

$23k for a 305? No thanks. Hate the color combo too... What's up with the fuel injectors?

I've gotta disagree on this one; I dig that IROC. We're only talking like a 10-15hp difference on the 1LE 305 vs the 350.

I generally prefer 91-92 Zs, but I LOVE the 90 IROCs - I had one, but it was like the most base model offered and eventually sold it.

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

It's not that there's anything wrong with 305's... I'd just never pay a premium price for one. A $5,000 100k 89-92 L98 car would pack just as much or more performance.

Just the same as I really don't like white thirdgens. I've owned at least three of them, and honestly I'd prefer almost any other color. Just personal preference.

The true "heritage edition" GM was going to make was a 350TPI motor with ZF-6speed in an RS body. The were going to make a little more than 600 IIRC. Shoulda, coulda, woulda... didn't... Typical GM.

The Z03 heritage package we all know now is just a visual package.

The bigger problem with that statement is that EVERY 1992 Camaro says 25th Anniversary on the dash.

I would agree, I have owned an LG4, an LO3, a LB9/M5 and L98's, and I test drove a LB9/A4... And after driving my Wife's LB9/M5 its just the most fun to drive The L98 is definitely fun, and its probably faster, so don't get me wrong, but nothing beats shifting gears, even when its not convenient. There is just a "Fun to drive" factor that has to be considered. There was nothing spectacular to the LB9/A4 that I test drove, it was a 91 t/a convertible

Agreed - 5 of the 6 thirdgens I've owned were 305/auto cars (4 were LB9, 1 was L03) and they were all lacking 'fun' IMO. I have yet to drive my L98 as I need a new tank/pump for it.

After swapping to a T5 in my 91 Z, it definitely made the car MUCH more fun to drive, but I definitely need some better gears than the 2.73s the car came with.

I think at this point the owner is not setting it's price based on performance, he is basing on it being a brand new car...well a twenty-year-old new car.

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

The 1LE Iroc is re-listed.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=260690035161

I can appreciate how nice that car really is, but it's not worth that price to me. There are a ton of VERY nice thirdgens out there that can be had for less money that will give nearly the same level of enjoyment. That car is not worth $33k... The $23k bid was far more then it's worth also. Even in a healthy market the car isn't worth that.

I don't buy into 1LE hype. It's just a stripped down car with big brakes. My personal preference is that I'd rather have A/C then the brakes.

Let me see... Did it sell for $23K??? no... Let's try $33K... I think he might be taking inflation to a whole new level. I know it might be coming, but not that quick

With the exception of a Firehawk or a TTA, very few 3rd gens are worth $20K let alone $30K today. But as soon as Hyper Inflation hits, we all should be able to afford a $30K car, but that's when Milk will be $10 a quart, Bread $20 a Loaf... And a Big Hershey's Candy Bar $15...

I know that there are some 1LE guys out there, but Like Drew, I kinda like my creature comforts. Besides a TTA you could get both AC and the 1LE equipment, same with the B4C and the B4U cars

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

Call me crazy, but I could care less about the RPO code... 1LE brakes are available for $1,000 as a bolt on kit. So take any G92/R6P thirdgen and add a thousand dollar brake kit over the weekend and it's going to equal the performance of a $20k 1LE. And you can actually drive it because it's just a run of the mill car, why not enjoy it? Start with a low mileage car and you can match these high dollar 1LE's for a fraction of the price.

I still think I have a 3rd Gen. that might be worth $20,000.00!! But maybe not, who knows until it sells.

Here's another that's fun to look at... Need's less red interior, but it is striking.

It's hard to appreciate these cars when there are just so many being preserved. There's a never ending parade of all original thirdgens out there.

I love the red interior but what scares me is the bra on the hood. I had that on my 92 and it collected water and starte to rust under it since it held water.

Leonard,
I was careful in my wording, I was not all inclusive, as I did state that there, "With the exception of a Firehawk or a TTA, very few 3rd gens are worth $20K let alone $30K today."

Of course your car is one of the few that would (should) fetch better than $20K

Once again, I left myself an out...

Scott,
probably so, I just hope that Beck is wrong... I can only hope.

Agreed... I think the car is probably worth closer to $8K to $10K (right now) regardless of it being a Vert, if it was a Z28, then yes it would get the $15K he is asking.

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

I never said the price was right... If I was buying the price would have to be lower to be justifiable.

I didn't pay that much for my RS, and honestly mine is less tampered with, in comparable condition despite it's slightly higher mileage. When it comes to convertibles I don't see much difference between the Z28 and the RS, they're both slow 305's with soft suspensions. The difference is badging, hood blisters, and TPI, not really worth much of a premium in my opinion.

No problem, I just hadn't posted for a while so thought I would give you a hard time. There are still some neat 3rd gens around and the prices are pretty reasonable.

So could you be making an argument that an "Aftermarket" ASC conversion may be more desirable as you could get the stiffer performance suspension and things like a desirable 350, compared to a "slow 305" in the "Factory" converted cars???

Maybe, but then REAL convertibles have a 3 in the sixth position of the VIN. Take away the 3 and give it a stiffer suspension and a 350, it's just about a wash.

Honestly, convertibles are HEAVY, slow, and they're made for cruising. They're a lot of fun, but not at all the platform I'd choose to build a performance car upon. For max performance I'd choose a hardtop every time. But for just cruising around enjoying the weather and the car it's impossible to beat a convertible.

I think it'd be fun to build a more performance oriented thirdgen convertible, but I think it'd be an uphill battle fighting the inherent draw backs of a drop top.

Leonard, are you ignoring my offer? You didn't respond so I'm guessing that you're holding out a bit.

Re: Beautiful car for sale on eBay

All the cars posted in this thread are very nice, and I cannot blame the owners trying to get as much as they can. To comment on something mentioned above, for me personally an LB9/A4 is more fun than an LO3/M5. Indeed, both 305s are down on power compared to my L98, but I always thought the stick in my RS would be more fun than the extra torque of an LB9/AT car. I was surprised to be wrong...my Trans Am, with that nice torque curve, is more fun to flog around than my RS, even with its mods.

I'm watching the 4 cylinder 82 on eBay...$5,600 with 3 hours left. What a neat car to have leather and a 4 banger

I think most of us would agree, that the LB9/A4 would be more fun than a L03/M5... I did a quick search and not find anyone making that assertion.
Personally for me I think the most fun car I have owned was the LB9/M5 Although I must admit the 350/A4 in the vert is a fun ride... With the top down of course ... I do not drive it much tho, its kind of hard to get out of its corner.

I was checking some of those cars out. Up here in New England they all rotted out pretty fast. It's nice to see the ones on Ebay in good shape and remember what they used to look like.

I've always liked the Irocs
