Just picked up a 91 RS Z28 clone.
Car is in great shape body wise. VIN code tells me it was a TBI 305/RS. Looked in the console for an RPO sticker but there was none. Car was converted to carb. Questions..is there another spot to find an RPO sticker? Also, this car has 4 wheel disc, which I'm pretty sure wasn't an option on the RS. Is there a tag or any identifying component on the rear axle to tell me what gears are in the rear? Thanks.

Try running the VIN here http://compnine.com/vid.php
Ignore the numbers and the rarity nonsense, just take note of the codes.

Look in the little storage hatch in the back compartment on the drivers side. Should be in there if it's not in your console.

The SPID moved from the console to the locking compartment in the trunk mid-year 1991. Early 91's have the decal in the console, late 91's and 92's have it in the trunk.
As always, verify that the VIN on the SPID matches the VIN on the car. If not then the codes don't apply to that car.

Re: Just picked up a 91 RS Z28 clone.
ok so the car had 308 drum rear. It now has a disc. Is there a tag or something to identify carrier and ratio or should I just mark the driveshaft and tire to determine ratio? If the revolutions come out o 2+,should I assume a 2 series carrier or 3+, a 3 series carrier? If I open the diff cover, can I determine ratio/carrier?
Thanks

Always get a kick out of the RS/Z28 'clones'. Its just such a funny term with these cars... Most people just slap a Z28 high rise wing on an RS and call it a 'clone'. There's a total assclown that lives a block or two away that drives a 91 RS that has the highrise Z28 wing and the guy drives the absolute **** out of the thing. The poor ol' TBI 305 is just praying for death so it can be out of its misery.
Everytime the kid sees my car, he revs the **** out of his, maybe to intimidate me (or my car); who knows.![lmao](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/lmao.gif)
..... when I was looking for a 91-92 Z28, I came across what was advertised as a 1992 Z28. The guy clearly knew his thirdgens, or at least well enough to know what parts interchanged. It had a 4th gen 3.73 rear, 4th gen seats, high rise wing; everything was in primer and there was no motor. I was literally 2 days away from leaving to pick the car up (4-5 hours away) and I saw the plastic cover where the TPI snorkel would have been and thought; I better run the VIN - Sure enough, came back as a 92 RS. I called the guy and explained that I couldn't take the car as it wasn't a true Z28. I already owned a 92 RS previously and was looking for a TPI car as a base to start from. Worked out for the best for me, as the next day I found my current 91 Z28 (ACTUALLY A Z28!
) and picked it up a day later.
