I just got a bag from a 86 iroc and I have a 92 rs, it shows the mounting is different and I can't seem to get it to mount right. It's black and says gm and fisher on it. My car is a factory t top car.

I'm using an early flap bag with my '88, the ttops themselves are identical, regardless of glass or plastic. And I haven't seen any mount differently in the car, unless of course you have a C&C car, I have never seen what was given to those cars to hold the tops when not in use.

Also, with the later zipper bag, they were known to get broken easily. Since this is kind of also intertwined with finding him a good condition bag, has anyone found a suitable replacement for the long azz zipper? I have two bags I'd like to fix, but can't seem to find a long enough zipper to replace the original.

Well on the bag it shows the mounting points on the trunk area, my points on my 92 are on the plastics.

I am not sure what your talking about. The only place for the clips to go in my 92 are on the plastics on side behind the roll up hatch cover. .

Both zipper style and velcro style bags hook to the metal brackets bolted to the floorboard. In this picture they are circled in RED.



The other hooks on the bag, hook to another pair metal brackets mounted to the trunk plastic under the cargo light on the tail lights side near the latch.

I don't have those, I have metal brackets up on the plastics under the hatch cover but none right there.

Yea, you should be able to run your hand over the carpet about 3-4 inches behind the back seat and feel two brackets underneath the carpet. The brackets everyone is speaking of and shown above would mount by two philips head screws into those tack welded brackets.

Looks like somebody removed yours when they changed the carpet. Good news is there are tons of t-top cars in the junkyards that will have these still in them.

Judging by the wrinkles, and lack of fading, it really looks like new carpeting. Someone who didn't use the T-tops couldn't bear the thought of drilling 4 holes (and risking a runner), in a brand new carpet.

All the bags I see have the big GM logo stamped into the top of the leather bag. My bag is just plain black without GM logo. It's the zipper type, and it was in the car when I got it used over 13 years ago. Was this original to a 1990 Firebird (no GM stamp, that is)?

My 1990 Camaro has this bag as well, since I bought it from the original owner in original condition 11 years ago. Ttops are glass, and the latching pin is thumb-wide, I suspect C&C Ttops.

C&C cars use two bags w/flaps.I have them, but dont use em.I use an OEM zipper bag & buckles.

Cool, always thought I had C&C Ttops but was too lazy to measure the leading edge to make sure...cool to know mine are factory (not that it really matters).
