'83 L69 Interior Colors
Hi all!
I recently ordered a headliner kit, and I got samples prior to ordering. The color that matched up best was Oxford Gray (1808)......I was told that this particular color was not stock, and therefore custom. Still waiting on it to show up at my door step.
I think since my car was originally an '83 L69 car, and the L69 models didn't come out until mid-year, maybe the '84 model year colors were used??
I think I got the closest color that matched, but I'm curious on exactly what colors were available on the HO's in '83.

Re: '83 L69 Interior Colors
Hey, thanks for the info SolarGoldRaptor!
I didn't mean to say the engine being an HO meant anything. What I thought might have been a difference was that the L69's were a mid-year addition in 1983, and maybe that made a difference, but apparently not.
If you're saying the Camaros had different names for their colors, that's too bad since I "think" mine would fit into the Sand Gray catagory somewhere. I wonder if that might be called "Oxford Gray" or something simuliar for the for the Camaros....??

Re: '83 L69 Interior Colors
Seems like we're looking for the same thing, I'm having a hard time finding repro parts for my light sand grey interior. I just don't know exactly what color it corresponds to in the charts. It's not even listed when you look at the 82-84 carpets color at Hawk's...
This color is sure not common but it's not rare enough not to be reproduced.

Re: '83 L69 Interior Colors
Hey, I think I actually might have found it! I know the original color of the car was Charcoal Metallic - and the list of interior colors on the below link has "Sandstone Gray" listed as a possibility. No wonder I couldn't find a match for my headliner...I don't think that particular color is available anywhere, so I think you're right - it's slim pickins in the aftermarket, but I know there was a lot of F-Bods with that same color.
Oh well, I think the Oxford Gray is really close. I'll know for sure when I receive my headliner kit....it's been going on 2 weeks since I ordered it from 1A Auto. I'm not restoring like you are, and if I was I'd be more concerned. If I run across any used interior stuff of the same color though, I'll drop you a PM.
Here's a link I found:
http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...trim&year=1983
Also, here's a place that offers a "Sand Grey" color, but I got the sample and it didn't quite match up...

Re: '83 L69 Interior Colors
Color names will only get you confused. The name is marketing, and might not be the same from year to year, make to make, or aftermarket manufacturer to manufacturer. Most of the aftermarket companies aren't even using the GM color names.
It's safer to go by the original color codes. On 82-83 cars there should be a metal plate on the radiator support with codes which will include the interior color code. On 84 up the code will be on the SPID in the glovebox. Using that code you can look up the year, and get a basic color description from dealership sales materials, the White/Red book, of the Catalog of Camaro (or Firebird) ID Numbers 1967-93.
If you're dealing with the aftermarket, your best bet is just matching a color sample to an unfaded area on your car.

I knew one of the experts on the board would finally chime in! I knew that silly tag had to mean something, but I never knew what... So when I saw your post, I had to run out and get the numbers off the tag, and there's a bunch! Is there a someone around that can translate these numbers? I got the following:
D 04C 1FP87 N 1 54084
60C 1 5L 1 5U E
AR9 CC1
Z28 D80
099791 253412
Just curious now, as I just matched up the color as best my color blind eyes could as you suggested. lol

If your headliner is similar in color to mine, then you want code 1810. The upholstery shop that did my car pulled up a 1988 book on Chevy colors and it listed the headliner as 1810. This was back in 1988 and they still refer to it with the same number.
Now, I called many people and had samples sent. All of them had a different shade, but they were all 1810. The shop that replaced mine did the headliner sail panels and the visors, so everything matches.
I think the 1810X is closer in texture.

Re: '83 L69 Interior Colors
THe problem is that it's called light sand gray, but it's not really gray. It's a light tan actually.
These are interior panels I've repainted, it's lighter than the original color :
On the undamaged areas of the speakers covers and the sunvisors, it was even brighter.
