DARE camaros

Were all D.A.R.E camaros a B4C, or did they just take a 6cly or a 305, and paint them to look like a police. I know they aren't real police pursuit cars, but rather a show cars, but I was just wondering what the guts of a DARE car were in 1987.
Z-28, SC's, LT's Berlinetta (although I thought the Berlinetta was dropped after 1986), 6cy, 305s?

Thanks

Re: DARE camaros

I think almost all the DARE cars are drug repos. So whatever the Popos happened to repo at that time is whatever the DARE car was equipped with.

Re: DARE camaros

ok thanks. One near me so I was asking. The owner said it was an 87 Berlinetta, 305 auto with 55,000 miles. Holes in the dash and roof from lights, but the roof holes were filled with a compound of some sort (silicon is my guess)

Re: DARE camaros

just out of curiosity are you looking at buying this car? I thought I heard those cars couldn't be sold to the public, but I could be wrong as they do have police auctions.

1) the B4C was introduced in 1991 on the camaro.
2) You are correct the Berlinetta name was last used in 1986.
3) Chances are it is a SC, it may be an LT, but those are uncommon.
4) If it has ground effects, and depending on where the car came from it may be an RS as they did sell some RS cars in 1987 in California and another state IIRC...

They do sell to the public. A local guy by me that sells a lot of stuff on here bought an old police dare car from the police auction and restored it. New paint and wheels. It was a cool car. I used to work on it for the police at my old shop since my boss had a contract with them to do all the maintainence. 305 TPI 5 speed car....I think it was an 86 or 87. Don't remember.

And this one was a repo car as well.
