Well I stumbled across a magazine in Barnes and Noble today that was called "Old Car Price Guide" (or something like that) so I checked it out and found out that my 1991 T/A 'vert is worth $7000 in the shape that it's currently in! And apparently in excellent shape it's worth $16k!! I don't get it, KBB is saying just a few grand...
What are your thoughts?
Personally, I'm assuming that these cars are worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay for em.

KBB is Way out of line, I would try NADA for a more realistic idea in price. Unfortunately, out of the three on-line appraisal programs, only NADA takes into account collector status. Your car although not showing it now will ultimately become a collectors item.

I would think the $16K would be reserved for a 1K miles car, stored, but only run once in a while... I was offered $12K for my 1989 Formula 350 Convertible in 2007... $7K would be for great condition cars, with higher miles.

The problem we have right now is the economy is going the wrong way, people are getting laid off like a cat shedding fur. The problem I think I see is no one is looking for work, Went into Taco Bell saw a help wanted poster, went into a local pet store, saw another help wanted sign, I am perplexed why people are not working...

As you know some of the people on Autotrader and their asking prices are just plain nuts!


91-92 TA Verts have typically pulled almost twice as much as an equal condition hardtop car. If there was a 1K mile 91-2 TA Vert in 1K miles shape, I would expect that car to be reasonable at around $20. I wouldn't pay that but based on some of the prices that are out there for higher mileage verts, a 1K mile car is damn near a million bucks!

I was surfing through the Autotrader ads and I noticed that there were a bunch of expensive cars out there...

there were
24 cars for $10K+
6 CArs from $8K - 9K
12 Cars from $7K - $8K
11 Cars from $6K - $7K
12 cars from 5 - 6K
9 cars from 4K - 5K

I actually found Three (3) Jamacia Yellow 1992 Firebirds on autotrader. Two are V6's, the other I dunno... AND I found an 87 Yellow Formula 350 too $1,886 93K miles.

ohh some book told you the car was worth some price.
Now I know where the nutjobs come up with their absurd high prices when they put stuff up for sale.
And here I thought it was soley listening to the nutjobs on here talk up their car prices.

I think it would depend on what you have... an RS will never outsell a Z28, unless it has a factory TPI, like the B4C cars. IMHO The primary value of any third gen is only worth what engine the car originally came with. People want a 350 or the LB9/M5... Most people turn their nose up on a 350 conversion or a LT1 conversion for example. Those things are for cars you want to keep, not try & sell, unless your Chip Foose, where you can do anything and make it worth more than it was before.

I agree that those prices are obsurd. But they are becoming more and more common, and if we ever recover as a country it will only get worse.

the only peeps you are gonna hear about complaining are the union monkey who want 50$ an hour job turning a bolt for 4 hours a day while getting healthcare benefits packages that would make a congressman drool, then a retirement pension that pays 110% of their former salary.

their jobs get shifted overseas they cry and complain how unfair they are treated that they have to actually find jobs like the rest of us...

so yeah its HARD to find jobs like that but its not hard to find an actual job.

as for the original post before i side track myself too much more. the prices of collectors items even in this obamatastic depression are as always what you can find. nice cars for good prices are here and now. right now its a buyer paradise for anyone buying such things. its how i got my firebird for cheap in fabulous condition.

I realize we have some dismay about our current economic crisis, I have to ask that we please try to refrain from getting political. I tried not politicize my comment, it was about the poor economy, I do have a "Right" way of thinking, but I would like to ask that we try to refrain from bashing the Republicans or Democrats, we are all beginning to get an idea of who is making the problems, but it needs not to be posted here.
