New floor pan looks nice. looks like the passenger side might need that treatment too. crazy? nah. Ive seen way dumber things being restored(including a 1991 mercury capri myself...) keep on keeping on! a good 82 is pretty hard to come by.

Re: restoring my 82 z28

The welds don't look that bad but I'm also not a welder haha. Sup frames are a good Idea for any car and should actually help the welds to keep from breaking since they make the body more rigid. i would also under coat it or primer it or both to keep it from rusting.

Re: restoring my 82 z28

I don't think you are crazy, I have had my 82 Z-28 since 1984 and I love the first model year of the third gens. Mine is no where near stock except for the paint colors which is white with silver ground effects. I put the Hawks 5" tall spoiler on in place of the stock unit and used a cowl hood for clearance for the 406 I built for it this summer. Looks really good what you have done, keep up the good work and keep us posted on its progress. In Ohio it qualifies for Historic Plates which is what I am going to do since this is my hot rod. Good luck..

Re: restoring my 82 z28

I thought about getting historical plates too so I didnt have to get tags but I plan on driving this about half the time and according to the rules It can only be used for car shows and things like that.

Nice job on the floor pans.
Are they aftermarket or from a parts car?

Your not crazy at all. You are just the start of what is going to make the value of these cars go up.

Why do you think all of these 60's-70's muscle cars are worth so much? Its the amount of time and money needed to put these car back to original or (I hate to say it) restro-mod. There were alot of these muscle cars made but not alot survied. So people who liked these in their youth (people over 50) would have to find one rusted out/damaged/gutted and put money into them and restore them or buy one thats already done. That whats makes these cars expensive.

Now with the 3rd gen. cars getting harder and harder to find one original, if one wants one they have to buy one they can find and restore them, just like you are doing. And as 30-somethings (people 30 and over) remember and want these cars they will either restore one or find a nice restored one, like yours would be, and pay you alot of money.

You, my friend, are a pioneer and the way things are to come in 3-7 years.

Good luck with your request!

Re: restoring my 82 z28

the stands are over 20 years old, i think i got them from performace centers of america. i cut them up tho, so they would raise 40 dollar jacks from home depot. made a new base and welded everything together. the bottom piece where it slides up and down is 2 angle irons welded together, cut off the base of the piece that slides into it, i had all the steel and tubes laying around my garage took me a week to make it. so far its still holding up.

Nice project! It's looking like a very nice car.

Your original pictures looked like what my uncle used to have. He bought his 1982 Z28 camaro new in 1982, but then got his license suspended for 10 years and over that time the block cracked. Then it just sat there for about another 15 years before he finally sold it about 3 months ago to some guy for $200.

Re: restoring my 82 z28

Aesome pics man! Makes me wanna get back to work on my '84 Z28! We did floor pans on it LONG ago (and I drove it another year or two after that). Now she needs strut towers (I have donor ones in my garage) and some new paint and a drive train.

Keep up the work!! It's great seeing these projects move forward!

Re: restoring my 82 z28

Nice thread, same project I have except mine is t-top model 1982 Z28 Maroon interior and exterior. Just wanted to say thanks for sharing.
I have same floorpan issues to deal with along with some minor firewall rust and rear wheelwell sopts other than that the exterior is relatively good and just needs a good blasting prime, blocking and paint, motor is being rebuilt once I get some cash for the machine work, will be making a rotisserie similar to your when the time comes, wish there were some detailed pics of your attachment points, going to install new floorpan on drivers side and, passenger side looks OK but the tale will unfold as I stip and scraps and poke, never know what will fall out on a 30 year old car, here's a few before pics of my car:
