Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
Somebody go shoot that mother.....
That is NOT a "clunker". Old does NOT equal clunker.
Only 2,815 GTAs even built in '91 & only a few hundred (Brilliant Red Metallic -- 222, Bright Red -- 384) built in that color!

Calm down guys......lets not get this thread locked.......maybe by generating some interest we can find someone willing to purchase this car.
Maybe the person selling doesn't even realize how rare this car is......this might help save it also.

I do hope someone will buy that car, but the amount of people who will actually pay 4500$ for a thirdgen, cmon guys 4500$ for one of our cars damn thing better be immaculate. Why on earth would someone take less than 4500$ for a car if the govt will give them that for free?

Even worse that I thought at first.....
Only 164 T5 GTAs made that year!
That makes it a 1 of 164!

Ooo nice, good to know.
Somebody in the GA area should trade this guy some cash and a real 'clunker' for him to use for this program and not waste a nice find like that. I guess we can all hope they suspend the program due to its popularity before he gets it traded in at the very least.

I did more than just bitch & whine about it...I contacted the eBay seller & have been conversing back & forth a bit. Just got this back from him.....
"I decided to put the car up for sale after learning that the CARS program disables and strips the cars that are turned in.

But let me know if you agree with this next statement...Cash for Clunkers is asking people like us to give up our cars for max of $4500. Here is the crazy part. What doesn't make sense to me is that why do I see commercials like Ford saying to trade in your gas guzzler to get this "fuel efficient" Ford F-150 which, in my honest opinion probably has the same gas mileage, and if not, it would take twice as much gas to fill up. Now its not even about getting a Toyota Corolla, or a Hyundai Accent. Now all of a sudden, its about SUV's and Trucks, as well as compact cars. It used to be about trading your 8 cylinder for a 4 cylinder...nows its trading it your 8 cylinder for an 8 cylinder with possibly a bigger engine. Now I am starting to see this as a scam. Anyone else see this? At first it was ok for people to get rid of their Bronco, or Hummer, but lets be realistic, The only reason I see this is a way to get a good car if you are possibly having a new born (for extra confort seating) or just making a complete lifestyle change (married, new job, etc...) (although I don't know who would stray away from the f-bodies). Anyone else agree with me.
Unless it has to do with the environment and emissions...There is no way you are gonna convince over 6 billion people on earth to not litter. We have already done enough damage that its nearly irreversable...at least not in my lifetime which is anoter 70 to 80 years. I don't mean to hijack this thread, I just wanted an agreement since its a cash for clunkers topic.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
I read that they disable the car to prevent future use. The procedure was that they drain the oil completely, then run some kind of sodium silicate, and water in place of the oil. When they mix, the sodium quickly evaporates and leaves solid deposits behind which destroys the inside of the block.

I agree. We don't know even what car he wants to buy? In order to get $4,500 he needs to get a car that gets more then 10mpg better then the GTA which would be 28? Otherwise he will get $3,500.

Agreed.........these cars mileage isn't great, but with a little bit work, they aren't bad either! I drive mine everyday!

A lot of dealers have stopped taking cars under the CFC program because the government hasn't been reimbursing them. Some dealers in my area are owed over $100,000.

Our government is already WAY in debt, with virtually every single country on this planet. I figured it is only a matter of time, before the stealerships get screwed by the government too.

You know what also came across my mind...they would not be able to do any of this crap if the economy wasn't in complete peril. If the economy and job market was fine. There would be no "Cash for Clunkers" program. because no one would be desperate to get $4500, but what they didn't know is that they get $4500 only if they spent like 10k dollars. doesn't make sense. Its like trading your car in for a credit card, but you still have to pay it back once its used plus the interest if not paid in full.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
agreed.... this c4c program is not about pollution or the environment, its just to get people spending there money again, or money they Really don't have.....The idea of the gov trying to save the planet is just a smokescreen, they just want you to spend your money somewhere.
1. The c4c program should have a better deff of what is a clunker!!!
2. Full size suv's, trucks, vans should not be sold under the program, unless its a old full size for a new full size.
3. There GOOD cars going to waste here that are not clunkers, what if a young kid wants to buy there first car, can they really afford new???($15,000 and up) prob not! This current deff of clunkers is taking away good cars from the poor, young kids looking to buy there first car, and people who've lost there jobs and are looking to down grade there newer more costly Larger cars to a smaller and older = cheaper, car.

I've asked before, the c4c cars, is the gov also crushing the body too? Or telling the junkyard to crush them, or not crushed at all??
Thank god that Canada does not have a c4c program!!!

I've seen many youtube videos of perfectly good cars being crushed, not stacked to be sold for parts.
That is what scare me about this program. That & the reduction of lower cost cars, for lower income families (loss of job, debt over their head, etc.)

This pro sucks!!! Its funny, Can's go down to the states to buy good body cars and replace High mileage american motors with canadian motors (low mileage). We LOVE our road salt here! Bodys rusted out, but I would guess that on avg that our cars get 150,000 miles (250,000 K's) put on them till they rust out. And to get around in winter you need to keep your engine in good shape!...EH!

150,000 miles may not be that low, but with snow, ice and accidents there are many Good low mileage engines here!

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
What im not understanding is....
Why must I have a perfectly good running engine if you are just gonna take my engine and kill it the moment I trade it in, so why do I need a decently good running engine for? Can't I just give you a "clunker" and take money for it? It doesn't make sense.
The other thing which everyone will agree with me is maybe my clunker might have 1904578959 MILES on it, but its paid off, and im not owing anymore money on it, unless i used a credit card on it to get aftermarket parts, but i don't owe anyone anything. But wait, this makes more sense, let me give you my already paid off car so I can start paying for a new car with my already shakey job. Even though my clunker is in great running condition, let me give it to you so that I can drive from the same point A to point B but in a different car that the only purpose is that it increases storage space......... in my wallet from the money i no longer have because its going into the insurance and payment of this new vehicle each month, and OF COURSE workforce is slow so your boss is gonna have to let you go...and now you are [BLEEPED!!]. good bye credit score.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
That is what I've been saying from day 1, but nobody has been listening. I've even gotten ridiculed for talking about the future repos that WILL happen.
C4F my PAID for 87....Take a new car home. End up with a monthly car payment...higher & full coverage insurance?
The $ it would save me on gas money, is NOTHING compared to what it will cost me in payments & insurance.
For SOME people? Sure. Not a bad deal. But lots of people are not looking at the big, long term picture. And the majority of the cars being traded in, are FAR from clunker status. Just older, that's all.
Cars WILL be repo'd, for non-payment.
Taking it to the "extreme'.....Then those people will lose their jobs, because they can't get to work (car got repo'd). Loss of income $ will result in other bills not being paid.....In the end, there will be some people who WILL spiral further & further down....And owe it all to C4C.
Between C4C & the proposed/being talked about, general health insurance cooverage program....Obama was the worst decision we've (not me, I didn't vote for him) ever made in the USA.

AM I TOTALLY WRONG HERE?!?!?
The government owns alot of the auto industry and they're BROKE. So what do you do when your broke? Get rid of the inventory and make money right? IE C.A.R.S. The government is in reality bailing themselves out by selling off there inventory and putting more debt on the people.

Wow, I just heard on the news 5 minutes ago that they are ending the C4C 2 months early and it will end on this Monday August 24, 2009. Obama says that the C4C program has become a "victim of its own success".

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
Being from what I do this C4C this is BAD for some but for me its a cash cow for me I work for a repo company and we are waiting till Dec or Jan when people start defaulting on the loans. I have been in car dealerships where you know the ppl trading in there cars eather cant or dont care about affording the payments I even seen sales ppl tell the cust "well they cant get ur car for 3-4 months so if you trade in your car now you can drive this truck car ect untill they (meaning me and others in the repo game) come get it."
So as for the C4C is a monster think you trade in your car that u own now u have a car payment that most cant afford or in this day lose there job now I come get it now ur out of two cars and the gov dont care lets all think before we trade in cars even though i am a repo man i would rather see some one keep a car they own than get screwed on this C4C thing

Apparently it has been saved, The bidding is over and the price is more than $4500
The beautiful thing about this C4C thing is it will push up the values of our cars that survived the war!

I guess I should also add that apparently the plug has been pulled on C4C.
I also did hear today that there may have actually been an increase in new car prices prior to the C4C initiation because of the anticipation of the C4C deal coming. The increase in New car prices was to offset the extra time that it was going to take to fill out all of the paperwork. Not sure about the legitimacy of this yet, but I would not be surprised.

If this is the case, some of these car dealers are laughing all the way to the bank.

Easily owing most stealerships 1/2 million dollars EACH! There is already a post here on TGO, about the one he works at selling 150 cars & gotten paid for TWO of them.
Our government is already so in debt to other countries, what they are stealerships is just a drop in the bucket & not worth the government worrying about paying anytime soon.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
This wouldn't surprise me either. I also wonder how many people ended up paying full sticker for the new car, and never bothered to negotiate, just because they were getting $4,500 for their old one, and the demand was heavy for the new ones. Based on what I've seen, some of these C4C buyers don't seem like the most savvy new car buyers.
If this is the case, some of these car dealers are laughing all the way to the bank.

From the sounds of it, not only did the stealerships not receive money from the C4C scheme, but I have also been told that many (in Canada) at least, are still owed rebate cheques from GM on new car sales!!!! Then, to be also told that you are losing your dealership due to restructuring.
Can anyone say "trickle-down effect"?

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
I saw a thread on here somewhere, where an 89 GTA got traded in, for a mini cooper. The GTA was easily worth 8-10k but the guy had wanted his new mini that day.
What I've heard for Cash for Clunkers is...
They installing an engine seizing compound, which makes the engine un useable, and the drivetrain must be intact with the body when it is put on the trailer. I haven't heard much about after that. Still no specifics on what condition the interior/body may or may not have been in before the sale was completed. So I think it'd be just fine to get your way with a fancy interior or parts, but you'd need the connections to do it.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA
UPDATE!
"Hey Steve,
Just wanted to let you know that the GTA is considered sold. A man will be flying down from Illinois on Saturday to get it.
I wish I had gotten into the TGO and GTA Source Page websites a long time ago and followed the discussion forums. I'm sure that could have helped me out in various ways over the years that I had the car.
