Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA

it went pretty well had a few problems before we left but otherwise the trip back was pretty good.
now ive just gotta get all the things that were wrong with it fixed one of which just happened the other day sometime since i bought it it must have bottomed out because the exhaust over the rear axle is smashed flat thankfully the hole in the exhaust up front allows it to stay running

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA

well the exhaust is fixed but now ive gotta figure out why the car has such low oil pressure when its cold its about 30 psi but once it warms up at idle its at 0 but i dont hear any valve lifter noise so im hoping that it might just be the sensor but i wont know for sure till later

Hopefully a decent number will end up parted out... Unfortunately, as has been observed in other threads, we may not be quite far enough in collector car territory yet for it to necessarily be worth it for your average wrecking yard to go to the trouble of parting out a third gen instead of just crushing it and moving down the line of the $BIGNUM cash for clunkers trade in they bought for scrap.

There's a lot of highly desirable vehicles that ended up traded in, I was a bit amazed at some of them as I read down the list. Never underestimate consumer stupidity/laziness I guess, especially when a guaranteed reward as an alternative to real effort is involved.

I know I went ballistic when I heard about that. Now where is that car, and if its do able I'll buy it from the scrap yard as a parts car, and rebuild the motor. Take that US GOV'T! Then I'll have to figure something out for the VIN. Might be able to find another TTA VIN and use that.

Wow, a GNX and TTA. The TTA is worth easily double whatever they got for C4C, the GNX..... probably, what 10x as much as they got?

Yea I noticed the GNX as well as an Aston DB7. GNXs I've seen listed and sold for 50-70 grand. TTAs depending on condition (I've been looking for one) anywhere from 8 to 40 grand. There were several other cars on the list that I noticed that were easily worth double what they got for C4C. Several import sports cars and some corvettes too.

We make some assumptions, heck those two cars could have had 250,000 miles on them... it is hard to really say. unfortunately they are gone, and some idiot turned them in... All I have to say is se-la-vie.

Miles are just a number.

It is how well the car is treated, maintained, & repaired, that is what matters most.

I saw a gnx parked in parking lot at the courthouse here. Paint was very hazy and scratched, interior looked like a female dumped her purse in it. I tried to stick around to see who owned it but they must have left when I was inside

Exactly, I was just using the miles as an example... I have owned cars with 200K that were nicer than cars with 50K. I would think that any dealer could easily spot the cars that are actually worth something. We do not even know if either of those cars had the original motor in them... I know of GN's that had a SBC 350 transplant... At that point the car is NOT worth what a typical GN was. I really suspect that there was something seriously wrong with the cars, they could have been used for racing and severely trashed...

I do know that some of the C4C cars were actually saved and sold by dealers. There were cases where the resale value was greater than the 4500 that was given out.

A couple of my local stealerships are running commercials on TV, that they are continueing the C$C program.

My guess is, it doesn't apply to ANY older car though. But they realized several cars were worth than the $3500-$4500, so it would be cheaper for them to get good cars, than to pay the market value. Stupid customers = bigger wallets for the stealership.

From MY understand of how the program works is,(NOT 100% SURE!!!), NOT every old car droped off WILL get you the $3500....its not guaranteed!!! It all depends on what you bring in and what your buying and the diff of mpg's between the 2 vehicles.

So I do see where Stephen is coming from on this one. Many of us(Customers), really don't know how the program works and how much they should be getting for there old rides. And therefore, These dealerships could take advantage of a customer, offer a Low pay out for a very good used or rare vehicle, and then turn around and sell it for double.

Remember, if the program has ended, dealerships can do whatever they want with the cars now.....re-sell them for alot more then what they paid for it!

Where I am coming rom, is that the TV commercials are actually stating, that even though the program has officially ended, the stealerships are still offering it. No doubt they were getting cars with values higher than the government was giving them, so they knoe they can give you that & resell them for even higher.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA

Just to let you all know. THEY CAN NOT SELL any cash for clunker cars. In order for them to get there money from these vehicles is they have to drain the oil and put a liquid to put in the engine and run the engine until they blow up. So yes rare ones i could see them doing it but not worth the risk if they lose money when its guaranteed at the time they were doing that the gov was paying the dealerships the vehicles. and only under 1k of the cars thats low number. theres more out there. don't worry guys.

now since the program is ended yep they can resell them for higher prices and say oh we still do the cash for clunkers blah blah.

Re: Cash for Clunkers Canidate....91 5 speed GTA

Technically many cars did not make it to the cash for clunkers, even though they were intended to get into it. Here is the problem, there were so many pages, and so much information, it all had to be perfect... Then you had to wait to see if it was accepted... I am not sure the end result, but many customers were denied. At one point, only 30% of the cars that were applied for the C4C actually got the deal.

In the end I am sure that some dealers were stuck with some of the cars, and some cars had not yet gone through the engine seizing process, so instead of taking a $3500 or $4500 loss they sold the cars...
