Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
Still waiting on my T56 to be rebuilt and I should have the hood this weekend. Progress is slow man, really getting sick of waiting on other people. Thats always when I get hung up, because some guy I need to do something is taking his sweet time. Frustrating as heck!!!

But L69 you are right, the important thing is quality, especially on a build like this.

FINALLY have an update worth posting! Painted hood, hood vents, and headlight covers. ONLY thing left is the spoiler!! Going to try to have it on tomorrow at some point. Heres a few pics.
Also picked up a brand new hood latch so I didn't have to deal with a sticky hood, lol.

Thanks man! Gonna feel great to get this hood on!
LMAO, I bought it because of you lol. Saw yours and how well it works and it was a no brainer.
Got it off ebay. Sellers name is "AM Autoparts" and it was about $36 like musclecar70sfan mentioned.

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
Hoods on!! The gaps were a bit wierd at first because the body line right down the center of the hood didn't line up with the line on the nose. When I tried to move the hood over to line that body line up, it wanted to hit the front of the fender on the drivers side as I was closing it. After trying to adjust the hinges and hinge to hood bolts with no luck, I loosened all the fender bolts and actually moved the whole front clip in the direction I needed it. After some final tweaking, the gaps are PERFECT and the body lines line up amazingly. Looks better than it did when I took it apart!
Hopefully I'll have the hood vents and headlights on in the next few days.

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
Hood vents on! Put paint remover to get all the white paint off the mesh screens and then painted them with some trim black paint. Never liked them the same color as the body before since they sprayed right over them when the car was repainted white at one point. Love the contrast it gives now!

I think the glow paint is not any better than than the 22" chrome spinner rims both are cheesy and juvenile.but that just me.

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
Hey guys. Sorry for the LONG absense. Just been pretty bummed about the tranny deal...but that should be fixed soon! In the mean time, I got a few more things done so I figured I'd post a few pics...
Did the hood hinges in gloss black. Actually REALLY like how they came out over being body color! And this way if they ever get scratched up, I can easily re-paint them.
Also had the hood latch/bumper support piece powdercoated gloss black. Came out awesome! Reason I didn't do it body color is because the engine bay came out a slightly different shade than the car, and this peice would have been way too hard to match since it's in between both. I think it looks good black though!
And now that the front support/latch piece is in place, no more saggy bumper! LOL, it lines up perfectly with the hood now. Just need to paint up the upper latch and spring, and get the new latch itself on and the hood will officially close.
Anyways, hoping the car will be good to go in another week or two with the tranny and I'll start getting some miles on her!

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
Honestly, there are parts of the car that aren't perfect, but I built it to be a driver, not a show queen, so I didn't sink money into things I didn't think were necesary for a street car. It's also 80's GM fit and quality so there are things that just aren't going to be perfect on it...for example, the front bumper cover is slightly out of alingment with the fenders (barely but I notice it), and as much as I try to adjust it, it will not line up perfectly. My vents were in great shape and to try to hunt down a used vent that was in better shape would be tough to do. I'm completely happy with the car though and thats all that matters!

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
80's fitment from the factory wasn't perfect...but certainly nice enough...before i did my 87, i restored a 62 cadillac- just swapping body parts from another car ended up being a nightmare- nothing fit well at all....so they've come along way! car's lookin good!

Re: **Project PITA** 86 TA frame up restoration
I love the contrast, In my opinion if you are not going totally factory original than have fun with the car. I started off with a plan on mine and changed it several times, the black looks great in there. That paint in a tough match and like you said touch up now will be a breeze. I was going to do the garage Queen thing untill I thought why build it this way if I don't plan to drive her?

Beautiful work. I am in a bind right now with a starter issue for my ol 350 block it sucks when somebody else messes something up beyond your control and sets you back. Can't wait to see it run. Don't know how you have had the patience it's got to be great feeling though to know that you rebuilt that beautiful machine.
