Im not sure myself if you can tell for sure but if it has an RPO code sheet usually in the center console lid or inside there somwhere it should have a code that says B4Z that would be a TRUE IROC. although anyone can change the center console from another car. Search around here and decode your VIN# im sure someone on here knows more than me. Just a thought.

Welcome to TGO. Vin won't help. As 86iroc350 mentions, check the RPO's for B4Z. You also might consider a search as the IROC had some specific equipment: For example, check the door placard for 16" wheels, a Wonderbar, etc.

While the car's VIN doesn't tell you if it's specifically an IROCZ. It can tell you if it's at least a Z28 or IROCZ (as oppsed to the other models). If the VIN's 8th digit (engine code) is an F (L98) or an 8 (L98), then it has a TPI engine. They were only available on the Z28 or IROCZ. Both are really nice cars. If it's an H, then it's an LG4, the base engine on the Z28's or IROCZ's. But it was also used in the other models, so it's not a good indicator.
Good luck.

Technically all 1987 Camaros were
1G1FP21??H cars So technically there would be no way to tell a IROC-Z from a Z28 as bot h cars could have either an "F" (LB9) 5.0L TPI or "H" (LG4) 4bbl Engine. IF it has the "8" 350 TPI Engine then yes it would be an IROC as I do not believe that the Z28 was available with the L98 in 1987...
