Re: CANNOT FIND RPO CODES

they should be part of the vin. if the car does not have a vin right up front, under the front windshield, it has been intentionally removed. you only remove the vin if you want to move a stolen car.
you can also look on the drivers door by the jam.
there were times you could look inside the dash by the steering column.
and one person actually found it stamped on the passenger side firewall, but he had to remove the airconditioning system, and its inside of a large rectangular opening.
LOOK - IF ALL THE VINS ARE MISSING - SOMEONE TOOK THEM OFF INTENTIONALLY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT VINS TO BE LOCATED and they did that for a very specific reason.
ITS STOLEN.
DONT BUY IT! follow those instructions from that very famous french general - actually back then it was called "the marshal of france" and his orders were RUN AWAY!

Re: CANNOT FIND RPO CODES

Nobody said anything about the VIN missing. And no, the RPO codes are not part of the VIN.

I don't believe all 84 Camaros had SPID labels. 1984 was the 1st year, though. It should be in the center console if it has the label. It's also possible that it came off due to age and the owner lost it. Check the radiator support for a metal plate. if there is a plate with a bunch of RPOs, then the car didn't have a SPID label. If there is no plate, then the adhesive on the label gave up and it's gone missing. You can contact GM media Archives and pay to have the original invoice sent to you. That will give you a listing of the options installed and the price paid.

Re: CANNOT FIND RPO CODES

'84 Camaro had the SPID label on the bottom of the center console lid. The earlier labels didn't use very good adhesive and eventually they pretty much just fall off. Also, if the lid was replaced, the SPID label usually got lost in the process.

There might be a build sheet from when it was assembled still in the car. They are usually hidden somewhere in the interior. Common places are in seat cushions, under the carpet, and behind door panels. That will have all the RPO codes on it.

scottmoyer, the Fisher Body data plate has no relation to the SPID label. They used both at the same time until the data plate was phased out during the 1985 model year. The data plate was used at the factory by Fisher Body Division when they were building the car. The SPID label was a convenience item for dealers so they knew what options were installed when servicing the vehicle.
