Re: 15th & All Anniversary Models C&D Video
That's cool! I haven't seen that before. I hate that they didn't show very much of the 1984 15th anniversary car, but hey, everyone's got to have a least favorite.
The L69 305 was a hot engine for a production car in 1984. The corvette wasn't making much above 200 HP, and the highest output Mustang was about 160 HP.
Wish one of my 15th cars looked that good!

I remember seeing this on tv, to me it is like the 15th anniversary is treated as the black sheep of the anniversary models whether on tv or in magazines because of its 190hp. Yet it is the 2nd lowest in production numbers.

The 15th is apparently given short shrift because it has the lowest rated horsepower of all the Anniversary cars. What they fail to mention is that although it was down 30 horsepower from the 1979 W72 model, it was also about 600 pounds lighter. It was also far superior in handling to the Second-Gen cars.
I used to own a 1978 WS6 Trans Am, and although it was hands-down the best handling car of the 1970s in my opinion, it can't hold a candle to the later WS6/IROC Third Gen in terms of handling, braking, comfort, or overall driveability.
There is more to performance than just acceleration in a straight line! Car and Driver is usually better than this.

yeah talk about bashing the 84---aside from the L69--no mention of the new 16" wheels--only car at GM outside of the Corvette to get them.

When was that made? I am surprised they did not include the 1999 LS1 car... notice that they mention the LS1 as a 305 at the end...
Ultimately what was cool was out of all of the generations, the third got two cars, all others got only one...
Thought they short changed the 84 tho. It is really too bad that the LB9 was not available in the 84, I think that would have made it a more interesting car personally I would be more interested in one.

Actually... the 4th generation also got two anniversary cars: The 1994 25th anniversary, and the 1999 30th anniversary. The 1994 car is in about the same class as the 1984 car, IMHO, even though it has more HP. It was less distinctive than some of the others. Definitely the most unique was the '89 TTA because of the drivetrain.
I would love to own any of them, especially a 1969 Trans-Am! I tried to buy a 1999 30th anniversary car from the local car dealer. I offered him what was on the sticker for it, and he refused. He kept it for about 2 years, then someone from New York bought it. I hear that he paid about $5k over the sticker value. This one was a hard-top (T-top) car. They made 1000 hard tops and 500 convertibles. This one also had the 6 speed, and guess what... the dash plaque had it as number 1000! That would have been a cool one to have. Oh well.
I will be content to fix up and enjoy a 15th anniversary model.
