Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
This is a great post. I have the Briar Brown contour seats in in an 83 Z/28. Some one else said there were avail without the cutom interior. Sure enough that must be what I have, wish the door panels were on my car too.

My car is a 1983 cross fire injection z28. Here is my LS Camaro Camaro Camaro seats. I have a small rip in the driver seat and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could buy this fabric. Also my seats are a little dirty so is there a cleaner i can use that will get it clean and looking like new. I'm really interested in how rare my seats are so any info would be great.

It looks like it would work but that one screw hole pictured has me bothered since the real ones dont have it so im thinking its not quite right.
If you've put up a want ad and really cant find one after all that, PM me. I have an extra conteur switch with the cover that was planning on holding onto as a backup since they are very hard to come by. I might just part with the cover if your desperate.

Here's mine. I worked at Norwood and wish I had picked up some extra material back then from GM Parts. Who would have known. I think the LS Interiors are the best loking ones out there. It really sets the look of the cars off

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
They look really nice. I have the pace car with the conteur seats, but the problem I'm having is the base is a power seat unit, and I can't find the switch bezel for these kind of seats.
I've been contemplating trying a Corvette switch bezel. They look the same. I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks

Hey thanks!! I will keep that in mind. I have one coming from a corvette, and they look kinda similar. Would you know if they are interchangeable? If not I'm only out $15 bucks.
What kinda shape is yours in? What will you take for it?
I'll let you know, and I'm sure glad that I know where to find one!

The corvette ones look like they will work with a bit of fiddling. Give it a go and let us all know how it turns out. If it turns out they will work then i can edit the original post and add that bit of information in.
As for mine its in good shape. Its got a bit of wear on the felt-like stuff on the outermost corner but its not broken in any way. The switch itself is missing the center **** but if i understand correctly your switch is fine and you only want the plastic cover. Not sure what i would take for it to be honest. Im not looking for stupid money. We can cross that bridge when/if we come to it.

Edited the first post to add this
This is the seat that most likely started our spectrum interiors and possibly the idea for the LSC seats as a whole. I had heard rumors that RECARO seats had been the idea behind ours but hadnt actually found a picture of them until tonight. Enjoy.

I think what they mean't was that the contour seats were available without the custom interior. You obviously have the custom interior. Why you don't have the door panels is a mystery. Are you the origional owner? If your cars history is unknown to you then I suspect that the panels were removed. Look closely at the panels and see if there are any staple holes, or someone may have just put on a new set of door panels for whatever reason.

edit: I answered my own question lol "RPO BS1 (Quiet Sound Group) was included with Custom Interior (except for Z28); standard with Berlinetta, $72.00 with Z28."
ps: just curious as to what exactly did the quiet sound group consist of?
edit 2: Answered my own question again haha "RPO-BS1 includes extra sound deading in the door panels and other interior panels" hope this helps someone

Re: 1984
I was able to find original solid colored fabric to patch the drivers outer bolsters at SMS Auto Fabrics in Oregon. http://www.smsautofabrics.com The fabric ran $85/yd. For the 84 interior, the SMS part number is "84 #447 Red"
One of them was really clean. I thought about getting it, but it was just too "eighties" for me. lol

Re: 1984
Thats too bad. You should have sat in the drivers seat before you dismissed em as very 80s (which they are lol). They are extremely supportive seats though and much better than anything that was ever put in the camaros in the 80s. Only thing that might be better was the recaros in the T/As but they didnt get all the adjustments.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
Maybe I missed it, but how much of the plain fabric is needed to redo the front and rear seats? $85/yard doesn't seem too bad for original fabric if it only takes 2 or 3 yards.

I think they are hard and uncomfortable. I have the base interior in my 86 iroc, and they are much more comfortable then my ls seats in my 84. Though they still do look cool.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
Im not entirely sure to be honest. I dont think that was mentioned anywhere in this thread. What i would do is call an upholsterer or the one that you plan to use and get their opinion on it. If they are good they should know just about how much you will need. Mine was so good all he had were a few scraps left over.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
Hi, I am actually the guy mentioned previously in this thread that had the set on ebay in Vacaville. I was researching these seats when I came across this thread.
For some more info, those seats were actually out of a Pontiac Firebird SE (1984 or 85? can't remember) that was in a Sacramento Pick n Pull. It was a black v6 car that was in really good shape. I grabbed the seats quick as I klnew what they were and always wanted a set. Later I needed some cash so I put them up.
The guy who bought them was going to put them in his 2nd gen Camaro.
I recently found a set in a 1985 Pontiac Turbo Sunbird. They are really nice and while I did put them up for sale, I have decided to hold onto them and have them
re-covered later for use in my T Type. I am always looking for them so it makes sense to store them.
A few years ago I came across a set in a 84 T Type, the whole interior was gorgeous in sandstone and seats were perfect. I went back the next day and everything was gone. Ever since then I keep an eye out.

I have an 86 T Type btw, the 84 and 85 had these seats as mentioned but for 86 they were supposed to be an option but it never happened. Well, almost never as there was ONE made.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy a set of 1982 L/S seats in the charcoal color with the different headrests. They are in decent shape but not perfect. My Camaro is the base 1989 RS. I was looking for suggestions as to whether I should get them for my car. With that being said there are a couple of things I am not sure about.
1. The non matching headrests.
2. These do not have the 3 Camaro's on each seat.
3. These are not specifically for my year of car (Even though they will fit)
I would appreciate your coments.
Kevin

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
My seats are bad. I would just like to get a decent set of seats for my car. There are a couple of very small holes but great compared to mine. And thanks for the advice subroc. I have greatly enjoyed reading yours and others comments on here regarding these seats and other interesting facts about these cars.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
If they are in better shape than your current seats and you can get them cheap - the answer is obvious ! Add the fact that the LS seats are "special" and it's a no brainer. You HAVE to enjoy a firm seat to be comfortable in an LS buckets !! It's pretty firm seat compared to any other Camaro bucket !
The LS Passenger seat is not to be forgotten either. It may not have had the bolster, lumbar, or leg adjustments, but it was not a stock passenger seat either. The seat bottom had a lot of additional padding compared to a regular camaro seat. ( almost like a trans am lower seat cushion ) Look at "yoshirocks702" pictures on 07-04-2009 and you can see this "bulged" passenger seat bottom.

At any rate, both driver's and pass seats have uppper and lower bolsters, lumbar, and thigh adjustments. Pics can be seen in my Car Details below.

Though I have twin L/S Conteurs, I'm unsure about their real origin--Theyr'e certainly not from a Camaro.

Well I got them. They are much better than they looked in the pics. There is a small dime sized hole in the drivers seat but it can easily be fixed. 50 bucks for both front and rear. I think I did okay. If anyone is interested in seeing them (for educational purposes)I will get some pics. I know for 100% sure that they came from an 82 Z28.

I think I did okay. If anyone is interested in seeing them (for educational purposes)I will get some pics. I know for 100% sure that they came from an 82 Z28.

I will get pics as soon as I can. They are still in my truck from picking them up last night. I havent even gotten a chance to get them out. I will also show you the hole and see if any of you know the best way to fix it.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
I must agree that these seats are hard as a rock, and combine that with the z's stiff suspension, and it's not comfortable at all (for me anyways, like John said you have to enjoy firm seats). I'm sure these seats will absolutely shine on a race track, they do support you extremely well. But for comfort I agree that the base seats are hard to beat (i tried an 85 with the base seats). I still love these seats as they are quite unique and i get lots of compliments on them. You should also consider that camaro's are "sporty" cars so you can't expect a Cadillac ride...
Those seats look really good, i love the colour!! give them a good wash they probably have never been shampooed for 27 years Can't wait for some pics when they are installed I'm not sure about the hole i think the best thing would be to get new fabric. Are the supplier's at the front of the thread still selling the fabric?

Well I got the pics. Let meknow what you think. I didnt take pics of the backs but they are no different really. They just need to be cleaned up now. Any suggestions on the hole?

As far as them being firm....yea they are. Its just the way they are but id take that over the cush that is normal camaro seats. At first it may seem comfortable but after awhile my butt goes numb and lower back hurts (and im only 23). With these seats i have never had that happen. If i start to get uncomfortable i just turn a **** or two and im back to comfy.

Insurance totaled it. When the rollback came, it fired right up and we drove on to the truck. At the body shop, it stayed there for about a month but they would start it up to move it out of the way. Then it went off to the junk yard, never could find out which one though.
That was back in 94, so its been over 15 years already...

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
It's funny.
In the '80's I just simply hated this interior. I thought it was gaudy and tasteless, and on top of that I really didn't even find the "Conteur" seats all that comfortable.
Now, that interior is a selling point when I'm looking at 3rd gens. Here's another irony. When new, I hated Crossfire because it was slow, couldn't beat a Mustang GT and it's worse sin - not available with a stick. Now I have one. And if I run across a blue CAMARO CAMARO CAMARO interior for it, I'll probably snag it too.

Re: Lear Siegler Camaro Conteur interior history
Guys I located one of the Miss USA cars used which is the one I have known about for a long time. The car sat under a shed roof behind a house for years, then the house was torn down about 5 or 6 years ago, and I lost track of the car. After doing a vin search through a friend of mine I found the car was still registered in TN. Very rough as far as the interior goes, but overall the car is very solid. What surprised me is as rough as it is the t-tops do not leak! The floors in this thing were as dry as a hardtop car, and this thing sits outside all the time. It is for sale, and the owner wants $1500.00 firm for it. The engine is not original, but the top end has been gone through. It sounds good, but needs a carb, and a little tuning. The worst part of the car is the hood, it was a mint OEM fiberglass one until the owner cut a hole in it to put the Holley carb with a adapter on the engine. He did contact me yesterday and said he has the piece that was cutout. The rear end was swapped for one from an 89. The one thing that is missing is the Miss USA dash plaque which was on it when I last looked at it about 10 years ago. So here are a few pictures.......RatPack........
Notice that the interior trim code is 67E, which is the conteur seat in cloth, but not for one with custom interior as it has vinyl door panels......
