stock 1984 cooling system Question
how much coolant should i add after draining in order to fully refill it...and what kind should i use....i bought prestone coolant is this good for my model/year?

I can't remember the exact amount, but you should run typical green coolant in your car, at a 50% mixture or close to that. At 50%, you will get really good cooling, and you should be protected to 20 below zero. Basically, all of the green coolants are the exact same EXCEPT for the rust preventative package that they add to it. That's why it's important to get a good brand. It will have more of the rust preventative package in it. I will say that some of them are way overpriced, though. Just don't get the cheapest stuff out there, and you'll be ok.
Do yourself a favor... Don't buy the 50% premixed stuff because it is a ripoff! Get an empty antifreeze jug, then go buy a new jug of pure antifreeze. Put half of the contents of the new jug into the old jug, then fill both the rest of the way with water and shake well... Voila! 50% mix, and now you have two gallons of coolant, which should get you pretty close.
Fill it up and leave the cap off with the car running until it gets hot enough for the thermostat to open up. Then fill the rest of the way and put the cap on.
