Super Rare Hood!?!?
I found a fiberglass hood, on a iron duke camaro. It has the correct small louver indents, but at the rear of the indent it has a flap like a ram air that opens and allows air into the engine bay. On the underside of the hood, it has a mechanical linkage that opens and closes the flap. Is this really rare and worth buying? Thanks alot.

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
Not really "rare", but those hoods were only on 82-84 Zs. SOME 85s too, I believe. Or was it 82-85? I forget.

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
Thanks for the fast reply. I know the fiberglass hoods are somewhat common, but i never seen one with this ram air flap and linkage. So have you seen this type of ram air hood?

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
i thought it was the crossfire cars that got those hoods? and i also thought they stopped makin it for the 84 year cuz of rain getting in the engine bay, so im thinkin 82-83? not 100% on those facts and im a bit tired lol. btw my 84 z had no flaps or holes.

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
I've seen a couple of those "flap" hoods, but I think both of them were "broken". As in, the flaps were no longer functional. You could open them by hand, but the auto mechanism no longer worked on either one.

Those hoods are found on '82-83 z28 with the Lu-5
crossfire injection engine, originaly there was an electric
solenoid to open the flaps that was triggered by the ecm.

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
Thanks alot guys! So it kind of sounds like it would be a good hood to buy then? Now that i think of it i believe there was some wires running to it. But the car was an iron duke, not a crossfire. Hmmm

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
Yea i heard they only used the factory fiberglass hoods on 82-83 camaros (not sure which modles) but discontinued them in 84 because they were prone to cracking.

Re: Super Rare Hood!?!?
I found one of these hoods with working flaps in a trash pile at a wrecking yard....it was in perfect shape minus paint, and the flapper worked....I already had a hood on my car....so I sold it locally for $100 bucks.....should I have charged more???

[QUOTE=derekterbeest;4113438]sorry for the bird crap on the hood. i just got it out of winter storage. here's some pics

That's great! Thanks.
I can see how it could be adapted to a carbed application using a traditional cowl induction air cleaner assembly. Hood clearence with a RPM Air Gap manifold is the only glitch. I'll have to investigate.
