When was my 89 Formula Built
I have an 89 Formula and I am trying to determine how close to the end of the 89 run it was built. It was delivered in early June of 89. I absolutely love the car and it is a blast to drive. 305 TPI with the 5 speed. Before I post the last 6 digits of the VIN, I just want to make sure that that is allowed here. Thanks!

Some will say that you shouldn't post a VIN because it makes it that much easier for a thief to steal your vehicle identity and create a clone. I have seen this done on the rare and desirable muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. I personally don't think the majority of thirdgen owners need to worry about this though. During the muscle car era, you had limited production muscle cars like Hemi Cuda convertibles, 440 6-pack convertibles, COPO Camaros and specialty Mustangs and Cougars. The thirdgen community shouldn't have the same issues down the road except for certain cars like 1LEs, B4Cs, TTAs, 87 Convertibles, etc. If you have a run of the mill 3rd gen, I believe you are ok in posting your VIN, however, others here do have a different opinion. I don't know if the sticky above that states to not post VINs is actually a board rule or just a suggestion. Maybe JT can offer some assistance.
The best way to know is to look at the date on the door sticker or on the build sheet if you were lucky enough to find one.

Re: When was my 89 Formula Built
I guess I am not as much interested in the date as much as just knowing how close it was to the end of the 89's. Or is it even possible to determine that? Would the sequence numbers in the VIN tell me that?
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you still have the sticker on the inside of the drv door jamb it will say the build month and year. My 89 Formula was a May 89 car and the seq number was 257431. You can kind of base it on that if you don't have the door sticker. Also if you get the invoice from Allied Vaughn it will be more specific.

Actually,
Scott is correct, it is more or less for the earlier cars. Also cars where they have not been titled ore registered for 5 years in most states the cars fall off the books. With the advent of the 17 digit VIN it also makes it more difficult because they are now tracking cars made since 1981 VIA computer, I am sure they track the older cars the same way but they have better resources than what they did.
The biggest mistake people make is not having active plates on the car.

There was a total of 64,404 or 64,406 cars made for the 1989 MY...
Honestly, if you want to know Production started in Aug 1989 for the 1990's, there were no cars made in Jul 1989

To prove my numbers Mark has a sequence number of 57431 at the end of MAY there was a total of 58635 cars.
