Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
they were an aftermarket deal, not sure who made them, I have seen them around.
Could be a one-off thing that was owner made...

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
Those were very common back in the day. My '82 T/A has the remains of the adhesive for the brackets that attach the covers to the bumper.
There are advertisements for them in old issues of Thunder Am/High Performance Pontiac. I did a little searching and it seems all the companies are long gone. Have you checked with JC Whitney? They carry a lot of stuff like that.

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
Why cant it be just as easy as putting on some black electrical tape? If not then tape the part you dont want blacked out and paint the rest? If you paint get a spare set so you can go back if you ever need to. Just a few ideas.

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
take another look at what he's buying... they are tinted plexiglass panels that allow the turn signal to still show through. Neither electrical tape nor black paint would do the job.

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
Yes,
They were by GTS.
I have a set still in the box, unopened.
And another set out of the box.
Neither set is for sale though.
And yes, the are tinted plexiglass with trianglar wedges that hold it up on an angle to match the front bumper/hood.
Hope this helps,
George

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
sorry to resurrect the dead..
but GTS wasnt the only company that made them. I had some that were not GTS but hooked in the same way and did not have any logo. thats what I am looking for. any thoughts as I dont want logos?

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
i'm not sure for all gts blackouts but the ones i had i was able to remove the logo with paint stripper. cleaned up nicely. or something along those lines will remove the logo assuming its not etched in the plastic.

Re: history on firebird turn signal blackouts
Be careful using paint stripper on acrylic (Plexiglas), it will ruin it faster than you can imagine. Do not use gasoline, alcohol, benzene, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, fire extinguisher or deicing fluids, lacquer thinners, or window cleaning sprays because they will soften the plastic and cause crazing.
What you can use is Naphtha (Zippo Lighter Fluid), Mineral spirits, some of the orange citrus cleaners,
Isopropal Alcohol is kinda. (NOT DENATURED)
