'86 Iroc (whats it worth thread)
Hey guys (and gals)
I bought this car around a year ago and it has 81,000 miles on it. I got the car for $600. The paint is great except for a few minor rust spots on the hood next to the louvers and it also has some paint chips from the front of the car. The motor needs work (in progress) its a stock LB9. I will be adding headers, cat-back exhaust, and possibly a mild street cam. The rear end is the 3.23 option. This car is optioned out. Even unknown options. Car has T-tops with good weatherstrip. Door weatherstrip is going to be replaced. Interior is not very nice, but it is there and functional
(minus the radio, it didnt come with one.) I was curious how much this car will be worth after i complete the engine work and make it run like-new.
Here is a picture of the car after a hand wash, right after i bought it :

You can see the paint chips on the front bumper/valance, i dont know what it is called. The rust spots on the hood are small, and not very noticeable. Other than that the car is great!
Picture was taken in the sun, so it looks a little wierd.

Welcome to TGO! This is a great site. Your car looks great for 600$!!!! Around here you wouldnt get a parts car for 600 lol. The front piece you are refering to is often called a chin spoiler.

Unfortunately we do not have an appraiser here on the boards. Without looking at the car it is honestly impossible to tell.
If you want a good feel for what the car is worth try here:
www.nada.com
Personally I would not go to edmunds.com or kbb.com as they undervalue these cars, even with our economy. If I could buy half of the cars that they have listed for what they have them listed for I would be a very car rich, money poor person.
Another source is to look at www.autotrader.com and www.autorv.com You will see that many people are asking a TON of money for their cars. If you compare apples to apples, do not get too enamored with some of the prices they show you can get a good feel for what it is worth. For example do not try to compare it to a 350 powered car, look at specifically LB9/A4 Listings with T-tops...
The average price right now is $8,356 for a 1986 Camaro... Of course there was a mis-listing of a Freightliner in there for $74000 that throws it all off... Prices range from $1000 to $13,500..

Re: '86 Iroc (whats it worth thread)
The way you described it, I think you got a hell of a deal for $600. I'd say it's worth several times more than that. Looks great to me. What do I know.. I'm a Firebird guy not a Camaro guy, but I love original 85-87 IROC's, and I love extremes, like totally loaded, totally stripped, etc.

Welcome to the boards. You got a
of a deal. What it will be worth is questionable like okfoz stated. Are you wanting to know the worth to sell it, insurance purposes, or just for your own knowledge? I would say for what you bought it for, fix what it needs enjoy it and it's priceless to you! That's why I have 2 cars, not my wife's theory, but it works for me!!

Re: '86 Iroc (whats it worth thread)
I am fixing the motor for around 400 dollars maybe, and it will run great and look pretty good and the interior is ok, so a 1000 dollar car that is nice, not a bad deal
