My guess is that the LT5 car sells for between $28k and $32k. (I'll say $28,000 because I think the paint job will drag the price down a little.) I've been really close on the other two. I thought $27,000 on the Kamback and it sold for $28,600. I had guessed $45,000 on the twin turbo car so I was really close on that one as well.

I wonder if any of the three thirdgens went to the same buyer. The fact that the twin turbo car and LT5 cars sold for the exact same price leads me to believe the same bidders were involved.

Re: Barrett-Jackson's a Vendor Right?

Man I really wanted that twin turbo car. It ran 214 mph at the GM Proving grounds before the spoiler started to lift the rear end. Engineers said it was capable of 231 mph if you can keep it planted.

GM Spent over $100k on R&D for the TT car. Sure hope the owner shows up on the boards......

Re: Barrett-Jackson's a Vendor Right?

Pardon me..... I stand corrected just checked out the BJ site and the 86 Kamback sold for $28,600
I was surprised honestly a one of one Wagon GTA..... (I thought that it would do better with the popularity of the Dodge Magnum shhhh)

The 1991 Twin Turbo TA brought $47,300

The 1988 LT5 Camaro brought $47,300 as well.....

Not bad predictions if I do say so myself......

Guy on the phone couldn't tell me if it went to the same buyer as the Twin Turbo...he didn't pay that much attention. (I even asked for the buyers name and he couldn't give it to me.)

He thought the LT5 car went to one of the big money corvette guys........

That 1991 Twin-Turbo did receive some brief airtime on B-J via SpeedTV as it was hammered away. I'm pretty sure they shown the guy signing it, too.

I wish they had some thirdgens other than the GM cars or the Knight Rider car this year. I'd be interested in seeing what something like a Turbo Trans Am, B4C or 1LE would bring in this year. Even just a really low mileage IROC or Trans Am would have been cool.

Depressed and going to bed. You guys have a good night.

Wife says I should have my head examined for even thinking it was "sane" to spend $50k on a third gen..... That's a ton of money any time but especially in this economy.

..... It will be good to wake up in the morning knowing we can still pay the bills.

Yea, I can just hear that conversation:

"Honey, is it alright if we live in a cardboard box while I buy yet another car we can't drive?" Sure thing sweetie... me and the 4 little boys (age 6 and under) will go down to Sears and look for an extra large box to call home.

Do they have a carholics anonymous group?

Re: Barrett-Jackson's a Vendor Right?

I think the 1986 Kammback was a decent price when compared to the 1987 GTA that sold in 2007 on B-J for $30,800 with 11K miles on it. And even though it was sold as unrestored, it was not completely stock (note: exhaust tips).

Despite the Kammback is probably considered "ugly" by many, it is nearly a 1 of 1 from GM's collection.

Good money for the third gen cars I think. See the one millionth Saturn, a loaded two door 95 coupe with 38 miles on it went for $6700. Less than new price. And when the Camaros went up there were a bunch of empty seats in the place. Interesting first day there.

Hey, you don't need to live in a box, you've got plenty of cars to live in. Everybody even gets their own car so there won't be any fighting. Normally, living in your car wouldn't exactly be something to be proud of. However, I'm not sure if that still applies if the car is a Firehawk or 1LE.

Re: Barrett-Jackson's a Vendor Right?

I would have thought the LT5 third gen would have gone for more. The engine alone is worth twenty grand, let alone the rest of the car and it's one off parts. Who ever bought it will make money on it in ten years.

Unfortunatly I am old enough to remember when you could buy almost any 2nd gen Camaro for 5K or less. A freind in high school bought a 1970 1/2 RS / SS 402 loaded with a 4speed / 12 bolt with 20K miles in perfect condition for 3200.00 dollars. This was in 1988. I also looked at a legit 69 Z28 intack but wrecked for 1200.00 cash in 1988.

Prices for third gens will rise to higher levels than 2nd gens. FireHawks and turbo Trans Ams will be the most sought after cars, you watch. When my generations hits the average age of 50, they will want the cars that were cool in highschool. IROC's and 5.0 Mustangs were the cool cars then. The 60's and early 70's muscle cars were affordable then, the then new GM and Ford offerings were not.

Look at what has happened to the eighty's camaros and mustangs, 90% were trashed, 5 % were stored and or driven lightly and the other 5% have been well maintaned. Third gens will be worth money eventually, like all US performance cars except the mid 70's corvettes wich were turds.

Boy, my comment hit a nerve. I will stand behind my comment, third gens will never be a collector car. These were one off cars. The only thing these car had in common with a third gen was a few pieces of sheet metal. Also, all the high dollor cars are original or gm one offs. If you smack a 350 in you firebird, smack on a ram air hood, new rims, you might have a nice looking car but its not a collector car. Or if it was eatten up with rust, even if you patched it. Have fun with these cars, but it isnt going to pay for school for your kids. Its about as smart as people who invested in beany babies.

Too many??? They made far more 2nd gens then 3rd.
So right there they have an advantage.

After 74 all 2nd gen power was pathetic. (the W72 400 Pontiacs excepted)

That trailer park comment is just completley arbitrary. I don't hang around trailer parks anyways. What if Ferraris were in trailer parks? would that make them worth less?

What's this Bad rep about? From who? you? please.
Don't beleive just cause you hate them doesn't mean everyone does.

3rd gens ushered in the return of performance. There handling was astonishing.

As time has marched on there are far fewer thirdgens around....and only some of those in great shape.

The high performance 3rd gens will appreciate. Early to mid 80s' 69 Z28s weren't worth much either...same with most muscle cars.
