Re: Video of a BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!
People me included would probably like to see it running and at least a set of replacement rims. After all these years I wouldn't be surprised if the engine is frozen, the wiring is shot and chewed up (Mice) and the fact that is not complete without the factory rims is what this car is taking a hit on. Kind of pointless to spend more than that if going to spend at least two grand to make it driveable and complete. Other than that I don't have a problem with it selling for that. Its not worth more than the GM prototypes that sold at B-J though.

Plenty of folks take cars and return them to "concourse" status. In other words, they put all the correct build line chalk marks back on, and everything looks like it should. Not over restored so that every little area is super perfect and clean...but restored to how they looked new.
That's what Ide like to see happen to this car...except it would be SUPER easy with this one. Most of those guys restore their cars by pictures. Pictures of where the marks go and all. This car still has em! It would be fairly easy to clean that car up, maybe get her running, and not spend a million dollars doing it. It would be just about costless if you think about it. It probably doesnt need THAT much stuff replaced. If anything.
If someone has 20k to buy it...I say great. It'll be nice to see a thirdgen pull some decent cash. And I still hope it someone on here because I want to be part of the clean up or whatever is decided for it...whatever it may be.

Re: Video of a BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!
Im pretty sure after 23 years of sitting that it will need all new gaskets on the engine before you would want to fire it up. Also probably a teardown is in order to make sure everything is good before you try to start it. But yes you are right..no trying to recreate anything with this car because this is what people shooting for concourse are after. I just havent seen anyone interested in a IROC for concourse....yet.

See that's what happens when you buy a car in 1985 and you're on acid! You store it away and when you come down off the high you forget where you put it and you go on with life.
It goes to show you.. "Only users lose drugs!"

I was watching the auction for the last five minutes. There was only one bid on it in the last five minutes. I think people got suspicious at what the car really needed and realized the guy wants way too much money for what it is. Goes to show that maybe if you do clean the car up and etc for nice presentation maybe it would generate more interest.

Wow, it ended at $24,600 and it didn't even hit the reserve. . .
Is that guy hoping it'd be worth over 30 grand or something???
I knew that car would hit 5 digits. . . but really thought no more than 15-20 grand.
Wonder if he'll put it back up. . .

Twentieth Anniversary TA, Firehawk, Nice 1LEs (but would be pushing it), and any of the one off GM prototypes that sold at B-J. There might be another Camaro or two but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I was including that when I said the TTAs. LOL. The Firehawk also has a vert and a t-top car and a Jade Green one that ran against the typical red hardtop. Those cars would be included in that previous comment as well. LOL. You get the idea.

Re: Video of a BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!
last I heard was a ford dealer bought it and had 1 mechanic who took particular interest in this car and did all the cleanup he waxed it and it looked pretty damn good he also found a set of IROC wheels for it (if I remember right he was looking for original gatorback tires but he was having trouble finding original tires decent enough to drive on) and put the front spoiler on it also they got it running too I know because I saw another video on youtube about it I also think he found the hood insulation for it (from GM). If I remember right they were trying to sell it again after being restored or cleaned up, whatever you want to call it.
The mechanic who was working on this car had a post on it also here but I don't remember where it was I read this a few months back and some of my details may be wrong (I have an excellent memory but it's really short).
It's a really cool story but I always think cars are meant to be driven I think if I came upon this car I really would sell it to someone who had a place to display it because this car belongs in a climate controlled museum with all the fluids drained to prevent and further damage. That's just my opinion. I think if you search around here there are a few posts about this car if you're looking for anymore information.

Re: Video of a BRAND NEW 1985 IROC-Z found in a trailer!!
It turned out really good and at least from pictures it looked like a brand new car. It is kind of a neat story, from what I gather it was intended to be built into a racer or something and the only thing that was really important was the manual transmission, as it was getting a new engine anyway. Apparently the wheels weren't real important either. Anyway I guess it was just one of those unfinished products.

wow that was pretty awesome!
the chevy dealership I used to work for had 2 people buy monte carlo aerocoupes and take delivery without any prep on them and immediately stuck them in storage containers. I wish I knew what happened with them
