Ohio Collector Plates

ANyone in ohio got collector plates on there third gen? not the historical plates but the collector plates. If so what are the guidlines? The reason im inquiring is because Im in Cuyahoga county (Cleveland area) and we have the E-Check. Im trying to avoid it because Im running long tubes with no cats on my 87 'ROC and theres NO WAY I will pass emissions even if i lean it out.

Re: Ohio Collector Plates

Contact your DMV... Ask them about the paperwork... It's about all you can do... I am surprised that cars that are 20 years old are not exempt...

They may ask you why, and you may not be able to drive the car on a regular basis. There are usually stipulations that are attached to special plates.

I know that there are certain things that you have to do to get collector plates or Historical plates... In MI to get Historical plates I want to think it has to be 25 Years or older. You can only drive the car for shows, car cruises, or to have work done... You cannot drive it to work for example.

Re: Ohio Collector Plates

I did a google search and found this http://www.epa.state.oh.us/pic/nr/19.../collplts.html

according to that link you still would need an E-check done.

Re: Ohio Collector Plates

So i would still have to take the e-check but i noticed it said the info was false on that page as of march 1 1998. Is there a revised version? Im not taking it to get registered untill march or april when it gets a bit warmer outside but i just need to know.

those are the cars that pollute the most and should be checked. In WA a new car is exempt for the first 5 years and after 30 year you can get a collector plate which has no testing, but there are conditions. no daily driver, etc...

Re: Ohio Collector Plates

in MI we do not have emissions checking in all areas. I want to think down in the detroit area they do, but up in Flint we do not.

My 87 would not pass either.

Re: Ohio Collector Plates

As far as collector plates in Ohio I believe all you have to do is submit proof that your car is indeed "exclusive" in some way from time it was built, this can mean color, options, performance models (1LE), some verts, etc. Age of a vehicle really plays no part in determining "collector" status by the BMV. And not all counties in Ohio have emissions testing, for the most part just those nearest the great lakes. Otherwise its 25 years til no e-check.
