Decisions, Decisions, need a little help here everyone making up my mind.
I have aquired 2 Camaros and am really really confused on which to do next year so I am hoping some of you can give me the pros and cons of which to do.
I have a 86 Factory Yellow Iroc. This is that one Iroc I have always wanted. 305 TPI, 4way Disc etc. I beleive this to be a rare Iroc due to color. What has been done so far: MOOG suspension complete, Black interior from a 88 Iroc possibly, new tires, new brakes, new exhaust with hooker headers.
My plan for this was to put in it a dash from a 91+ Camaro, L98 TPI, with tranny from a 91 as well. Basically a solid driver with a little pep to go all the while keeping factory appearance.
Car is 100% rust free BUT I want to and planned on doing a 100% rottissery clean up. Factory Yellow with the appropriate striping etc. The lady who owned it prior to me had it repainted its factory yellow with some rainbow metallic flake, and didnt put the graphics back on
In your opinion would it be better to take it back to factory making it a restoration OR do what ive always wanted to do even though it will devalue the car IF it is a rare Iroc. Im not sure if ppl consider a car rare due to the color or not.
So in my quest I found the perfect donor car, a 91 Z28 which I had intently figured on buying without seeing because after all its a donor car.
I paid the guy 1k for it got it home and began to dig. NOW im in a predicament. The 91 has some seriously nice options and maybe its too nice to make a donor car, I just dunno ..... Car runs and drives fine and has no rust holes, its just dirty as hell and needs some panel realiging and imho a paintjob. So here I sit wondering If i should take the stuff I want from it then part out the rest of the car.
86 Iroc Donor Car???
or
91 Z28 Donor Car???
Cant keep em both............
Heres the 86

The 86 isn't really anything because of the color. Take that as it's not valuable because of color. The fact that the 86 already has replacement parts on it, I'd swap the engine and drivetrain from the 91, the dash and any other options you want. The 86 doesn't have a 350, but the 91 does. It also has the G92 package. Move those items over and build the IROC the way you want it to be. If the 91 is too nice to swap parts from, then clean it up, make it ru good, throw some paint on it and sell it. Use the money to buy another donor car that's not in the best shape and start over again.

I think thats what ill do, and keep all the original pieces from the 86 just in case i ever want to go back to orig.
I figure I can sell off the Leather interior and all the other goodies to get my money back from the 91. I researched the 91 some and can see that it really isnt as a desired car as the 86 is, so stripping and cutting it up isnt going to be as painful as i thought it would be. Theres probably alot more 91 Zs on the road than 86 Yellow Irocs I figure. That there along with your reply i think has made up my mind.
Now whered i put them torches?
Thanks~!

Pic one and sell the other. Don't part out a perfectly good car for parts that are floating around all over the place. ie. junkyard, ebay, TGO classifieds.

I`m sorry but I believe I would have to keep both of them. The 91 is really not that bad at all and doesnt have alot of miles.Looks like a good clean up and service would go along way with it.I like the iroc too though.I wouldnt go parting out any decent cars myself.

I have to agree with shady, I would sell one of them. but clean it up real good, and try to flip it. Either way both cars are pretty nice, especially the 91z. G92 is something people will be looking for in the future.
I don't think you should tear either one of them up.

Don't part out the 91. Either keep it and raise more funds for your 86...or...sell the 91 and use that money for another donor car or parts.
although the 91z28 is not "rare" it also does not deserve to be gutted.
and keep the IROC yellow. I didn't see many of them at the Indy Camaro car show last month.
Now I would keep the 91 and make it my little race car and I would restore the yellow IROC to factory status...but you have to do what you feel is best for your situation...

I'd say keep the 86 I have always wanted a yellow iroc, and the 91 does look really nice what you could do is just swap engines, and then just resell the 91, and as far as interior goes I prefer the early dashes I deff love my 89s gauge setup more than my old 92

We picked up an 85 IROC as a parts car for the 86Z. Turns out the IROC has a much nicer body, too nice to part out. We'll use what we need from it, but then I'm keeping it to play with. I don't have the heart to part any Camaro.

Thats too bad you are kinda far, as I would love to buy the 91 Shell of you. I love that body style. So I am partial to the 91. But since the 86 is what you have wanted, go with it.

Re: Decisions, Decisions, need a little help here everyone making up my mind.
I would have a hard time either way... yellow is probably one of the more rare colors, not many people around here have a yellow 3rd Gen... i too am really partial to Yellow
The 91 is more rare as for overall numbers go with the L98, about 6000 were made, but the 86 they made about 40,000 with the LB9... Without actually getting out my White book I think they made less than 6000 Yellow IROC's from 1985-1987, BUT not all 91's were whtie either... most were probably red, again I do not have my White book handy...
The miles on the white car is not horrible, but high enough... i have no idea what the miles are on the Yellow car... but it looks really nice regardless...
i would not think that the 91 is a Dime a Dozen car, I would give it more credit than that..
Ultimately do what you want... I would probably look at both cars and decide which one is a better starting point, Are you more adept to Mechanical, or the painting/restoring...
I would take the car with less rust personally... I would take the Front sway bar from the 91 7 the engine & trans from the 91 as they are improved...

Re: Decisions, Decisions, need a little help here everyone making up my mind.
I can do it all, mechanical, body, paint, etc so cleaning or restoring them isnt the issue. Mileage on the 86 is 90k. Both cars are rust free surprisingly. Well the 91 has a little bit of surface underneath but i mean barely surface. If I could keep them both I would, but I cannot. Reason is simple.........wife....... . I am sure I can get my money back just by parting out whats left of the 91, but then as suggested I could throw her back together and sell it as whole and maybe get more. So all in all from all the replies I have decided to do the 86, just what to do with the 91 now, and im leaning towards storing it somewhere so she dont know, strip it, fix it, sell it.

If we were`nt so far away I`d say I have a place to store it.Wait, thats a perfect Idea.Your wife would never suspect you hide it in Mississippi. BTW did I miss what was wrong with the 91/Doed it run?

Keep the 86, clean up the 91 and sell it. Buy a ZZ4/350 and drop it in the 86. Keep the origional engine in the event you sell that car one day.

I dont consider them a dime a dozen car. thats why you dont see many 91-92'zs on the road anymore. people keep destroying them.

Thats really too bad about your wife... we just picked up or 6th car, the 89 IROC (for the second time). Its only the 4th toy but when I found it I had to have it and actually she is all for all of them... 67 Camaro, 89 IROC, 07 Corvette and 92 Jeep Wrangler. Keep both cars, find a new wife!
