I've been gone for too long. Anyway, I've got 172,000 on mine. Original motor went at 172,000 miles. Car in question is 1984 Trans Am that originally had L69 with a 5 speed and T-tops. To my knowledge I am the third owner. Hoping to get a correct L69 put back in at some point and I've got a H code motor out of a Caprice with 80,000 on the motor. All the L69 stuff I could swap I swapped. Hoping to be back on the road sometime this spring if not sooner.

I picked up the bird Nov. 11, 2006 with 154,624 miles. It's still running the original LO3 pretty much stock. Swapped in a T5 @ 185K, and it currently has 215K on the car and still running strong. It's used as a 90 mile round trip commuter every day since it gets more than twice the MPG of my '03 2500HD.

92 RS with 105,xxx original miles on the V6, transmission and everything behind the firewall. I'm the 5th owner, bought spring of '07 for $600 after a friend fell asleep at the wheel and went through a mailbox post. Currently in the initial stages of the V8 swap and transmission rebuild. The V6 still runs great, but the T5 doesn't like 2nd or 3rd anymore.

my 89 firebird just rolled over 94,000 miles with no rust, matching numbers. engine + trans rebuild and new paint in 2006. i put 200 miles on it since i bought it in june 08, i am the 3rd owner. its garaged for winter.

1983 firebird = 185,000 miles b4 speedo cable cable broke and i kept driving w/o speedo so it might of been 190,000 miles.....oh did i mention that the motor or 700r4 was never rebuilt? LOL

its starting to get valve float at 5000rpm(weak valve springs) and the 700r4 is slipping and going out lol....body is rusting badly

Here's some more info for you!!

Both cars were made in Feb 1987, last 6 #'s of the VIN's are: 1987 IROC = 139902, and 1987 Z-28 = 127102

Both have "in service" dates of Feb 1987, and were bought 22 years, and 2295 miles apart!!

Both were also bought on a Saturday!!

It's all there, if you have the paperwork!!

The "in service" dates are usually printed on the Warranty Info booklet, there's a space for it, on the front cover!!

All the info that I posted for both of my cars happened all by coincidence!!

I was looking for a third gen for my son, and this 1987 Camaro Z-28 was sitting there on Craigslist, dropping by $100.00 per day!!

Originally the guy wanted $4800.00, then $4700.00 so I called him, and saw the car two days later, and made an offer of $4000.00 Needless to say he accepted it, and now my son, and I own it!!

The numbers just happpened to be close, closer than we even imagined!!

I would have never even thought that it was possible to get two cars that close in numbers, and dates, built at two different factories, a zillion miles apart, after 22 years!!

All that without even trying!!!

86 z28 with 174, odd miles. Bought her 2 weeks ago and restoring her. She's beat up at the moment, but hope to have her painted at the minimum by summer of this year. No rot, mostly surface rust and boby work. She's all stock and I plan to replace whatever I remove with a real part. Prev owner was gonna strip her and send her to the scrap yard so at least I saved 1 from the scrapper.

As an update...its sad that my '91 RS has only gone a little over 1,000 miles since I posted 20 months ago, but that's because I bought a house, then gutted the interior to re-do it and Dynamat it, and was tight on time and money. With 116,600, though, its getting back on the road in May Just need my headliner kit to come in, and to finish the t-top gaskets, and we're good to go.

My most recent addition though is my '86 TA...purchased on March 19th with 30,750, and stands 200 miles more than that today! I've driven it more in 2 weeks than the previous owner (2nd owner) did in a year! I'm gonna slow down the driving, though...its a great, original, low mileage car. Just been too fun to let it sit there, at the moment!

Unless you are the original owner of your third gen and know exactly how many miles are on it chances are you 88 bird or camaro have more then 33k on them. Probably need to add a one or two on the front even though i didnt own my camaro from the lot i know it has 96k on her because it sat since the 90s. The seats condition,pedals wear, tranny condition, lack of dirts and carbon build up. The lack of road grime on the underbody is a big sign.These are all telltale signs of real milage the odometer only goes up to 99,999 miles on mine is it diffrent on any other third gens.

Easy to see the miles shown at each inspection, to verify any mileage claims. And odometers only going up to 99,999? My 87 goes to 999,999.

I bet that if you look at yours again, you'll see that yours does too.

Currently, my Camaro has almost 200k on the body and I consider myself to be one of the lucky few since it is in structurally sound condition (Except when I plowed into that truck back in november luckily it just msashed up the fender and bumper).

When I ripped out the old carpet to undercoat the floors and put in new carpet I found not ONE spec of rot. A couple teensy weensy surface rust spots but I hit them with POR-15 before the undercoat.

I think it's only the 145mph speedo's that go up to 999,999, my 86, and both my dad's 83's only go to 99,999. Also, not all states inspect. In Oregon they don't emissions test, or inspect where I live. You get to guess if mileage is correct here.

1990 V6 Bird. Just short of 124,000 miles. Original engine and tranny. Only thing I had to do was get the tranny resealed. Bought in 1997 w/ 59,000 miles for $6,600. Slowly creeping back to that value in NADA (once fully restored). Not quite worth that much yet obviously. But who really cares? I'll never sell it, but it will be nice when I can say it is worth what I paid for it.
