Can anyone please help me with a paint code??
Hey all,
I've found a place in town that can make up some "factory-replacement-type" touch-up paint for me, as long as I can give them the original paint code. Well, I've looked all over for the SPID report that I had printed out a few years ago, & I can't find the bloomin' thing.
I know that the name of this color is "Flame Red Metallic", I just don't have any way of knowing what the paint code is. (The console has nothing that even resembles an original sticker...)
For whatever it's worth, my car is an '89 model, and here's a half-decent picture:
For whatever it's worth, I HAVE searched, & I found the following, which seemed at first glance to be what I was looking for -
- but the more I thought about it, the less sure I became. From what I recall, the codes on the SPID report were all 3-digit alphanumeric, like 'WU5' or similar...
Does anyone out there have the correct paint code?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

The name for both numbers are the same unfortunately. The paint code for
your year 'bird is on the code tag inside your center console .
It should be the last line of the ID tag stating with something like BC/CC
(base/clear coat) then the WA code
something similar to,,
(**example**)
WA- L0848 U0848 A7372
Lxxxx = Lower color
Uxxxx = Upper color
Axxxx = Accent stripe color
74/8748 is Flame Red used from 84-90 &
74/9535 is Flame Red used from 88-90

Can they match the color if you bring a sample in? If so, you could pull off one of the rear side marker trim rings, and bring it to them.

The post you quoted above has the correct paint code in it.
For 1989, the correct code for Flame Red Metallic was 74 and the WA number was 9535. Those two numbers will get you the correct color of paint for your GTA.

Thanks Frankie, I just got off the phone w/ the guy @ the paint store, & he said that it looks like the code you gave me is the right one.
Ward, thanks for the reply, that's an EXCELLENT idea, I'm going to do that this afternoon!
Thanks for the help guys!
