Turbocast wheels/caps on ebay...not what they seem

Anyone with turbocast wheels look at this auction and tell me if you notice something strange with the caps. The seller doesn't say what size the caps are, but they look like they are too small for the wheel. 14" caps maybe??

I compared them to my 15" rim and cap...notice how the edge of the cap goes all the way to the recessed part of the fins. The ebay ones come up short making them look smaller. I've emailed the seller about the size but he has yet to contact me. Looks like he's trying to mislead buyers.

Here is the ebay link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...234577143&rd=1

and here is a pic of mine.

Definitely to small, they should go right up to the recesses like you said. I’d they they are the 14” caps.

Re: Turbocast wheels/caps on ebay...not what they seem

I like how he says they were pulled after 4000 miles from the original owner. Those are some pretty rough 4000 miles He could of at least tried to clean them. Anyway, I was thinking....do the 14" caps actually snap into the 15" rim, or would they just be sitting there? I guess the clips could be in the same spot for both hubcaps, just a smaller diameter...same with the wheels. I just figured the 14" caps would only fit the 14" wheel.

Hopefully I get a response from the seller...if not I'll point out to him they are smaller. He probably knows, and just wants to make a buck on someone who doesn't know better

Sometimes, they just measure the diameter and call it a 15 inch without looking at the stamp inside the wheels.

Off topic kinda, but those are cool looking wheels without the centercaps!

Re: Turbocast wheels/caps on ebay...not what they seem

I just tried to put my 14" caps on my 15" rims and they would not snap in place. they are to small. the tabs don't even line up so it actually spins while sitting on the wheel.

Re: Turbocast wheels/caps on ebay...not what they seem

I got a response from the seller, and they are 14" caps...he gave me the part number and it ends in 95, not 90. He said they were modified so they won't fly off

Well, at least they are the Rockwell casting, made in USA. Some where cast in Mexico (I forget the casting campany name) but I heard there where some tolerance issues and machining issue. The Rockwells are the better casting.

I didn't know they made different castings...I think mine say modern wheel or something like that. I'll have to double check.

Here is a pic of the reverse side of my wheel...it does say modern wheel. What's the difference between Modern Wheel, and Rockwell? Did you ever find out the Mexico one?

There were 3 manufacturers of those wheels:

Rockwell
Modern Wheel
Kelsey-Hayes - are the Made in Mexico wheel.

For what it's worth- it would be ILLEGAL for Pontiac, or anyone, to manufacture a part with "Made in USA" and actually have it made elsewhere and sell it in the US. Can't say this doesn't happen elsewhere in the world, but, it's illegal to do so in the US.

Re: Turbocast wheels/caps on ebay...not what they seem

I'm doing this strictly from memory, but the 15" version of the wheel should be 10017891 and the 14" version 10017896. That would be a quick way to tell the difference. Subtract 1 from both numbers to get the corresponding hubcap number (10017890 15", 10017895 14").

ebay auction appears to be 15" wheels with 14" caps
