Re: Was this car a steal?

Not to many details. No power windows. I wonder what else it might not have. Doesn't even say what engine. May only be the LG4 305 4bbl. Who knows. Nice shape but still a lot of money, even for 15,000 miles. Now if it had 150 miles!!!

Re: Was this car a steal?

As I see it, the car has the base interior for 86, no ttops, no power windows or rear hatch release, manual mirrors, no hatch shade or split rear seats, etc. I would assume the car to be the LG4 also. The only option on this car appears to be auto trans. It's a good price for a 15k mile original car, but maybe a bit high for this no frills Z28

that year didn't offer 350's.
but that isn't the first time I have seen a 86 with a 350 for sale.

If it was any other year other than 86, I might go for it.

Re: Was this car a steal?

The Z28 badge on the dash doesn't have Tuned Port Injection under it... Since it's an automatic it has to be a LG4 car. L69s were all 5-speed.

It is a nice looking car.

Re: Was this car a steal?

I have never seen a tuned port injection decal on the dash and mine came with the tpi so that doesn't mean a thing. From my understanding and what is listed here somewhere is that there were a few tpi 350's sold to the public in 86 but I would assume that they would have been irocs not z's since they had the better suspension and were the high model. I havn't actually seen a z with a factory 350 until 91 when it came back to replace the iroc. Not saying they didn't make one but I just never seen one.

Re: Was this car a steal?

Not to hijack the thread, but here's another one during that same auction that amazed me:

http://www.mecumauction.com/auctions...D=TV0E08-68516

First, it's listed as an IROC (which wasn't around in '84).
Second, it has the wrong front chin spoiler for an '84.
Third, it must have been painted because there is no stripe package

And lastly -- I was watching this auction on TV -- someone paid $20k for it. I was truly shocked Mecum would list this vehicle with these credentials when clearly the car isn't original.

"Was this car a steal", only if you actually stole it.

Re: Was this car a steal?

THe 86 350 car that was used in one of the magazine tests was a stripped down variation. One of the issues they were having was the EPA certification and fuel milage regulations which made it impossible to actually sell them.

Another thing to consider is the car above is a Z28, and to my knowledge only the IROC Z was available with the L98 in 1987, since there was no Z28 in 1988 they were all IROC's you could argue that there was no L98 Z28's until Chevrolet lost the bid on the IROC cars in 1990.

WIhtout a VIN its impossible to tell, and for that price I suspect that it was an LG4 possibly an LB9 as those were the only two engines available in 1986 with the Auto.

Mecum said that this car has been sitting in a museum. It's clear that the seller was blowing some smoke. If I remember correctly the bid went to 20k and the seller turned it down.

Re: Was this car a steal?

it looks like one of those v6 camaros from 88 with z28 badges.

but it being an 86, it has 305. all the 86 350 car were crushed, and they all had 5sd

Re: Was this car a steal?

Actually I think the TEST car that the article was done on had the Automatic... or are you being sarcastic?

Only the Z28's would have the TPI portion because the IROC-Z's had "IROC-Z" in that area of the badge.

Agreed, the test car in Super Chevy was an auto.
