L69 IROC rarity??
I've stumbled across what I believe to be an 1985 IROCZ with the L69, 5spd combo. The 8th digit of the VIN is a G, it has rear disks, the 5spd, its Red with the black "camaro" interior. It has ttops, but no power windows or locks, yet has AC. Car is mostly original except someone decided to change the intake manifold and put a stupid open element air cleaner on it. I have a correct dual snorkle set for the car. Overall the car is clean, the driver seat is torn up. From what I understand there were only about 2400 +/- of these built. I like odd ball cars, I am wondering if this would be worth picking up. Id like your input
Thanks

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
Sure, it's a good car; a kind of top-of-the-line one.
Beyond that, it depends on what kind of condition it's in.
If by the "Camaro" interior you mean the one that says "Camaro" on the seat a bunch of times, find enough of that material to redo the seats, before you decide to pay extra based on it having that but it's torn up. You may well find that you either lose that feature or have to live with a torn-up seat.

Yes, its the interior that says camaro a bunch of times. I have not seen the pics of the seats yet, if its just the bolsters I can replace those. I do restorations for a living, paint, body, interiors do not scare me. I am a numbers guy, I like odd things, low production numbers and wierd options.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
It's a real nice find,
That IROC was a rare optioned car and IMO is worth saving. The Black/Grey Camaro interior was only used in 85. It is an "odd ball" in that the L69 engine was not used on the IROC's very often in 85 as most buyers looking to spen big $$ on a high end IROC were more interested in the "new" TPI engines at that time. The fact that it's got a T5 and the deluxe interior also make it desirable. It SHOULD have 3.73 gears too ! T-Tops and POSI would round out this car nicely !

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
The seats are really rare too... Because they were so "odd" looking very few cars came with the "CAMARO CAMARO CAMARO" Seats.
You will have one heck of a time (in effort and cost) to get that fabric.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
The guy just emailed me a picture of the RPO code sticker.
It is indeed a L69, MM5, J65, GT4, G80, Z28, FE2, CC1 the only other odd thing that was on there is a Z06 RPO, i've never heard of or seen this on a camaro. Anybody hear of this?

Roll up windows and no power locks with a stick shift!! sounds like a muscle car. I m actually in the process of converting my formula to manual windows and lock. Although i like cars with no options but those that go fast. Good find, i saw an 85 l69 on ebay a lil while ago.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
The material is possible to find except for the blue. Theres a guy on EBAY selling Red, Rust and black/Silver "Camaro" fabric. I've been looking for the blue "Camaro" interior for three years. The closest I've come is a woman who is making purses out of NOS fabric. She's killing me.... She's making purses out of vintage fabric and won't part with it.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
i remember seeing somewhere that the Z06 was the RPO for the "camaro" interior. but my memory isnt the best either.
did the spid include the RPO B4Z?
OMG! the inanity, the agony, I checked out that website..eeeeek! and she is askin 2 bills for about a square foot of material! WOW offer her about 2 grand for enough material to cover seats and see what happens

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
Nice find. Back when I had my 84, a nieghbor bought a new 85 black IROC HO 5spd. It was optioned pretty much like mine, even down to the L/S seats. I ran him a few times and we were both dead even as we should have been. I'm sure his handled better but we never tried anything other than straight line stuff.
Good luck on getting it.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
Well guys i am new to the site and wanted to know if i have something special. I Bought my First 3rd gen in November 07'. For that matter Its also my First Camaro. I have always Loved Camaro's. Just couldn't afford one until now. In November i bought a L69 85' Iroc off of E-bay. Had to have the car Shipped From el paso TX to Louisville Ky. The car is has the 305ci HO with T5 speed. T-top. Power windows and locks. 89,000 original miles. The top half of the motor has been up graded with cam, roller rocker heads, intake and carb. Shotry headers and cat back exhaust. The guy i bought it from claimed to have had it Dyno'ed at sea level and hit 318hp at the wheels. I am new to the 3rd gen cars But REALLY love my car. I have always wanted to have one and now i do. A real dream come true.

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
welcome to the party!
looks just like mine well without the hardtop and peeling clearcoat
As far as being special, well if you feel it is, it is. Doesnt matter how rare it is or what "special" options it has. Its your's and you love it, thats what counts

Re: L69 IROC rarity??
That is a real good find. I would much rather have that L-69 car than the LB-9.
I wonder how many cars were produced without the power windows, locks and the other non-performance stuff like that. I would venture to say most Z-28's, Iroc's and T/A's came with them.
I feel fortunate that I have roll windows, no power locks and no T-tops with my 83 T/A with WS-6 3.73 5-speed car.
