1LE ???

i think ive found a blue 90 iroc 1le. its been sitting for 7 years, 69.000 miles 305 5 speed. it has the 1le brakes, and the owner says its a 1le car, but it has the foglights, single cat, a/c power windows, etc. the vin is 1g1fp23f2LL12xxx1. i didnt get a chance to look at the rpo sticker, is it possible to find out by the vin??? or only the rpo code??? if it is a 1LE its one of 34 lb9 5speeds made in 1990. thanks

Re: 1LE ???

Might not want to post your complete VIN. Also, AFAIK there's no way to tell based on the VIN. Have to take a look at the RPO codes.

If the brakes are PBR's (11.7" rotor and single-piston alum caliper) in the rear only, the car's not a 1LE--with some of the options you mention, I'd be suspicious.

Re: 1LE ???

The 1LE cars DID NOT come with single cat, AC, etc. Sounds like typical used-car-seller lies.

Look at the SPID sticker. If it has 1LE, it's a 1LE car. If it doesn't have 1LE, it's NOT a 1LE. No matter how loud the owner protests.

1LE front brakes will be aluminum, made by PBR; 11.8" diameter rotors. Everything else brakes are about 10½" diameter rotors, cast iron Saginaw calipers like anything else. 1LE rear brakes are the same as any other rear discs that year; also aluminum PBRs.

If I was the kind that was ever willing to bet on something I had never seen, I would amost be willing to bet that it's NOT a 1LE car, and the owner is just trying to find a gullible fool with stars in his/her eyes that he/she can snooker some extra green out of.

The 2 basic rules of buying used cars (or used car parts):

Rule #1: NEVER EVER believe so much as ONE SINGLE WORD out of the mouth of the seller, unless you can verify what they say independently with your own eyes. There ARE NO exceptions. If you don't see it in front of you, it doesn't exist.

Rule #2: In case the owner comes up with some kind of believeable story as to why your eyes are deceiving you, see Rule #1.

That particular car is a 1989 TA with R7U (Player's car). While a 1LE, it is an odd one since it came with power windows, locks, mirrors, radio, etc. as part of the players package.

Re: 1LE ???

Mark I think this is the car that I was thinking of in the other thread, It does not have T-tops (CC1) But it does have everything else... So I was not nuts after all.

Re: 1LE ???

Why would somebody want a car with no air condition? I bought my current firebird 5 plus years ago from Michigan and since the day it was delivered to me the a/c **** has been on the ON mode ever since. Andrew

Andrew,
I think you missed the point of a 1LE. The 1LE is a race car you can drive on the street, not a street car you can race, anyone can race a street car. The 1LE was specifically designed to be raced, mostly for the Players series... Most race cars do not have AC...

Re: 1LE ???

Thanks, but I would never buy a non a/c car. After looking around I do not see any difference in engine package, it is not like it is getting 50 to 200 more HP. A 505 HP Z06 Vette comes with a/c!

I know we all have different opinions and I respect every one's on here being third gen brothers united, but I just chimed in my point. Andrew

Re: 1LE ???

I see this is going nowhere... have you ever noticed that nowhere can be read two ways? "Now Here", and "No Where." What is interesting is that the fact that I am now here and I am going no where. So where does that leave me... right here and unable to move.
