1984 Recaro T/A with 4-speed manual trans and Z-bar clutch setup??
A guy over on another forum is telling me he has a '84 Recaro T/A with a factory 4-speed manual transmission and a mechanical clutch pedal setup. He insists that the car has never been messed with and won't believe me when I tell him they NEVER came that way from the factory! He's also telling me that the 4-speed manual was standard with the 5-speed manual option for the '84 Trans Am.
I've checked the GM Firebird transmission usage chart, the GM Firebird Master Parts Catalog, the dealer brochure, AND an original 1984 window sticker and they all point to the T5 5-speed manual as standard equipment on the Trans Am and a new for '84 hydraulic clutch pedal setup. The only thing thing that had a standard 4-speed manual in '84 was the 4-cyl Iron duke and it too used the new hydro setup. Am I missing something here or is this guy extremely misinformed ???

I can't speak much on the Recaro, but the 4 speed went away in 83 for the Trans Am and Camaro. The 5 speed became the standard transmission. You are correct that the 4 speed was still available with 4 cyl.

i recall seeing a post 83 car with a Z bar system and i recall saying to myself "thought that went away in 84" but i want to say that one was poss a early 85 car. i recall seeing a SE with a 4 spd once. i want to say it was an 84 but its been so long ago on the second sighting.
