Re: 1989 IROC
I am going to say zero. IROC's came with the LB9 305 TPI or 350 TPI.

Re: 1989 IROC
I ALSO ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THE IROC CAME STANDARD WITH THE TPI ENGINE UNTIL I BOUGHT THIS ONE A WHILE AGO. I JUST HAVEN'T SEEN TO MANY OUT THERE WHICH MAKES ME THINK IT'S A RARE COMBINATION.

Re: 1989 IROC
From all that I've read, it would seem the numbers are very low, as in zero made. I'm almost positive TBI wasn't offered in 89 for the IROC package..

Re: 1989 IROC
The RPO sticker in the console lists Z28 as an option code which from what I've been able to determine is what identifies the car as an IROC since the regular Z28 was not a stand alone optine in 1989

Re: 1989 IROC
Seriously, it seems I must have a documented IROC here with a rare engine and trans combination from what I'm hearing. The car has T-tops, A/C, power seat, power windows, 3:08 posi, drum brakes rear, front disc brakes.

most of what I've seen are either 350 with auto 305 TPI with both auto and manual but very few 305 TBI with manual. I just wish I could find out about how many were made like this.

I really have to laugh at the guys that still say they did not make TBI IROCs---you really don't know much about Camaros--do you?? Time to study up!
I had a TBI IROC too. Since this motor was shared with RS and sport coupes--you can't say how many went into IROCs. But it's probably the lowest combo availible---cause it was a disgrace to IROCs

In 1989, the LO3 was the base engine for the IROC-Z. Combination of IROC-Z, LO3, and MM5 are unknown as combinations were not kept. Sounds like a base IROC-Z as the base tranny was the manual with that motor.

Thanks for the information. The car really isn't all that disgraceful it's really pretty nice since it has less than 36000 miles on it. It's also alot of fun to drive. I don't care that it doesn't have the TPI engine because my days of racing someone from traffic light to traffic light like I did back in 1969 with my first Camaro are long gone. It's just a fun car to take to the local car shows on the weekend.

Re: 1989 IROC
Here's an original brochure for the 1989 Camaro (Canadian) It's a little hard to see in this picture but clearly shows that the 5.0 litre EFI (TBI) was the standard engine for the IROC with either 5 speed or automatic. Note the 16 inch rims were optional this year which was kinf of weird since the prior years they were standard. both the 5.0 & 5.7 TPI was optional powerplants.

Re: 1989 IROC
Starting in 1990 the TPI was the base engine for the IROC and then Z28 thru 1992. THe same holds true for the Trans Am. From 1982-1989 the BASE engine for both lines were the Base V8, LG4 from 1982 - 1987 and LO3 for 1988 & 1989.

Re: 1989 IROC
Thank you for all the valuable information. It's good to know that there are so many that appreciate the IROC as much as I do and enjoy talking about it and sharing information. I'm glad that I found this site.
I'm still deciding whether it would be better to sell the present car that I own with the TBI and look for one with TPI or keep this one and gradually restore it. It's all original with only 34,600 miles on it and it drives like a new car.
