G92
Hey all,
What exactally came with the G92 package aside from the dual cat exhaust?
Also, other than motor and dual cats, what parts were different between a 91RS LO3 auto and 91 Z28 L98 auto?
One more, what years were the 1LE package available on? and what did the 1LE package consist of?
Thanks in advance,
-Tim-

Re: G92
G92 was the "performance axle ratio". G codes in general are axle-related.
It meant COMPLETELY different things in every year, and depended on what motor and drive train it was applied to.
Not a whole lot of parts are different between a bottom-of-the-line RS and a top-of-the-line Z28 in 91. Ummmmm..... the gas pedal is the same; maybe the door skins; just the whole rest of the car is different except for maybe a couple of bolts or something. That's all, they're pretty much the same other than .... everything. For instance, RSs came with drum brakes, but Z28s in those years usually had 4-wheel disks (the GOOD ones); oil cooler (warmer?); bigger wheels; different steering, shocks, springs, struts, sway bars; maybe a few other things. Plus of course, the motor and exhaust. But the dual cats AFAIK weren't standard as part of Z28, you had to get the performance gear ratio (G92), and the exhaust came with that.
1LE came out in 88. There were 4 of them that year. There were more in succeeding years. Primarily, it consisted of the bigger front brakes. You couldn't order it on any of the cars except the ones that were already at the top of the line as far as performance; like, you couldn't add it to a 6-cyl RS or something. So all the cars that got it, already had either the L98 or LB9/5-speed combo (wasn't available as far down into the food chain as LB9/auto), G92 (whatever THAT meant to the specific car combo in the specific year), etc. Except, in 91 & 92, it came as part of the B4C package made available to law enforcement, and the "rules" were relaxed considerably. for instance, whereas in prior years it was only available WIHTOUT A/C and certain power accessories, the B4C cars could have any of that.

Re: G92
G92 was as stated above different justa bout each year. On pontiacs it was available in 1986 and basically NA in 87, in 88 it included the 1LE and was apparently the only way to get the G92 on a Pontiac...
Chevrolet was different, basically the G92 was only the Performance axel ratio. If you wanted 1LE you had to delete AC and some other things. BUT if you were shifty (& lucky) you might have been able to get AC & other things that were suposed to be NA on a 1LE car...
the N10 was NA until 1989, but you could still have gotten a G92 prior to 89... I am not sure if N10 (dual cats) was manditory with the G92 on the camaros or not. I suspect it may have been but not sure.

Re: G92
As Okfoz stated for the earlier(pre '88 1LE)G92 for Chevrolet was the performance axle ratio. It vaied from year to year and motor/transmission combo(my '83 Z28 has G92 for that year with the LU5/700R4 -3.23).
From '88-'92 it gets more complicated as to content and availability of G92 on both Z28/IROC/B4C and Formula/Trans Am/GTA.

Re: G92
what is even more interesting is Where Pontiac used the G92 as the performance package Pontiac included it by model. From 87-92 ALL GTS's & Formulas should have gotten the performance gear when equipped with the LB9/M5 OR the L98/A4. THe trans Am would not have nevessarily gotten the performance axel in all years with the LB9/M5 or the L98/A4, but it ended up being manditory later on. Although the car may have been equipped with essentially the same equipment as a GCamaro G92 the RPO did not appear on the SPID sheet.
In 90.5 thru 92 the Trans am could have been equipped with the R6P (I think thats right) option which in effect gave the car the performance package. Where again the R6P was NA on the Formula or GTA it was automatically included in their packages with the LB9/M5 & L98 cars. What is even more interesting is the G92 was ONLY available on the Trans Am from 88-90 and startin in 91.5 you could have gotten a Formula with the G92, IF you got this package you automatically got the 1LE package to boot. So for the Firebirds it was pretty much the same option...
Some day some one will probably prove me wrong, but thats what I have found so far to be the rule of thumb.
