IROC-Z or Z28

I bought a 89 iroc but it had a z28 emblem on one rocker and an iroc on the other. i assume the z28 is correct but just wanting to know for sure. I just had it painted and the emblems were left off so i could bet it right. the rear bumper had the 5.7 tpi on the left side and it had a z28 on the right.

What does the vin say? That is where your answer lies along with the RPO codes.

Re: IROC-Z or Z28

In 89 All Z28s were IROCs, I am moving this to H&R as they will be better able to answer your question.

Re: IROC-Z or Z28

As AmorgetRS stated in '89 all Z28s were IROCs.In other words the IROC was the performance model and RPO-Z28 was part of the package. It was this way from '88-'90('85-'87 was the other way around). Both are technically options on the Sport Coupe.

The only way the VIN comes into play is with the eighth digit to designate the motor. If it's a F(LB9 TPI 305) or 8(L98/B2L TPI 350) then it's definitly and IROC.As the LO3 TBI 305 was standard in the IROC from '88-'90 and also optional in the Sport Coupe/RS.

NiteRider is correct in checking the SPID decal on the console door(make sure it's VIN matches your car's)for option content.

Re: IROC-Z or Z28

It is for sure an IROC I know that, the rpo codes tell that. My main question was, should it have the iroc or the z28 on the rockers. The dash has the z28 with iroc written under it. I just want to be sure i put the right emblems back on.

Re: IROC-Z or Z28

It should say IROC-Z on the rockers and rear panel, Z-28 on the interior.
