Info on 91 1LE and 88 Notch
I'm looking for a little input on a couple of my 3rd gens. I have an 88 Notchback GTA with 28k..auto, electronic dash, untouched, good to very good condition. I also have a 91 1LE Trans Am 44K Kilometers (27k miles)....This is a Canadian car with the R7U code...as far as I can tell it's also untouched. Looks like the bolt paint on the factory engine build is still intact. Car is straight but has a bit more road rash than the Notch. Basically, I'm just looking for any info or sources anyone wants to share. I set out to get a Notch, a 1LE and a 92 convertible 5-speed. Two down, one to go. Anyone out there with a 92 manual drop top??
Thanks in advance for any info. koserv....

Those sound like really nice cars and I'd love to see pictures of them.Check out this links for more info on the R7U code car(if you haven't already).

Thanks Coolram....I just e-mailed Mark for info. He sounds like the Guru for the Players cars. Here's the stable so far. Like I say, I'm still looking for that 92 drop top...

What type of information are you wanting on the Notchback? I've got a small website, http://www.gtanotchback.com , dedicated to them. Included is an official letter by Pontiac stating that there was a total of 718 Notchbacks in 1988:

Frankie from http://www.gtasourcepage.com has figures that show 624. The only reasonable answer we have is possibly due to exports, as Frankie's figures do not count exports. I know of many Notchbacks exported outside of the US. I've had contact with several from Australia alone.
The notchback decklid was built by an outside company called Auto-Fab. The Notchback was an option available on the 1988 GTAs. Aside from the unique fiberglass decklid, the interior featured rear seats with integrated headrests, which was also used later on the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. Aside from that, they aren't any different from a regular GTA.
The option was canceled in August, according to a Car Distribution Bulletin that Pontiac sent to the dealerships. There was a lot of fitment issues, especially with the prototype.

Thanks JT. I hadn't heard the 718 number. I've been going with Frankie's numbers off the GTAsourcepage. I know Jim at PHS no longer supplies info for post 87 cars, but he did have a ton of stuff on the 91 1LE so perhaps I'll call him and see if he can clarify the number. Although the letter on your site looks pretty definitive to me! Thanks for the links!

Thanks to all who posted replies! It's a summer Sunday here in Wisconsin and I hear the back roads along the river calling to that 1LE.............Yippy!!

Some time ago I contacted Pontiac and simply asked about Notchback production figures (the letter I have on my website from Pontiac was not received directly by me). I was given the 718 figure. So it appears Pontiac does have 718 on file as two separate inquires lead to the same figure.
