What way can i find out my cars build date? My door jamb decal is no longer there and i couldnt find my build sheet. Isnt there a plate below the radiator that shows it? What other places can i look?

Re: Build Date
When GM started using the SPID(RPO decal)the trim tag information, even the use of it,changed after the '84 model year. The trim tag should be mounted on the radiator support.
Also is the SPID still on the underside of the console door?If it is make sure the VIN matches your Camaro's VIN.That will give the options installed and it may also give you the build date(still looking thru info to see).
Another option is if there is a build sheet in your car. They weren't always left in them during assembly. But places to look are under the seats(in the cushions),under the carpet(front and rear)and in the door panels. Some have found them in other places or not at all. There have even been build sheets of other cars found.

Re: Build Date
Yes, it is still under the console door and it matches the VIN# to my car. Ive never seen a build date on one of these sheets though. Ive had all of my interior out and looked for my build sheet in all of the places you listed besides the door panels.

Re: Build Date
On some GM models the SPID shows the build date but the ones on F-Bodies might not.The trim tag should be on the top of the radiator support if your car has one - either center or just off center(I should have mentioned this before I apologize).
Another way to get a rough idea of build date for your car is the engine. If it's original to the car it will have the sequential part of your car's VIN along with it's engine code and build date.

Re: Build Date
The motor is unfortunatly not original to the car so there goes that idea, also the tag on top of the radiator support is not there. Any other way to find out? I appreciate any ideas.

Re: Build Date
The last six digits of my VIN# is 151486. By using this number what year did it have a better chance of being produced in, 84 or 85?

Re: Build Date
That's interesting the trim tag is not there. The radiator support might have been replaced and it wasn't transferred.Since the egine isn't original do you know if the transmission and/or rear axle are original to her? They both have build dates on them. The trans will have a tag(right rear trans pan rail) and on the rear axle it's stamped into the passenger side tube on the pinion side(axle code, build plant and build date). It may or may not still be legible.
These would give you a rough idea of when your car was built(with a month). But with a VIN number that high I would guess she was built in '85(I'm comparing your VIN to my '83's VIN).

Re: Build Date
"Trim Tag" was discontinued about half through the 85 production year.
Easy way to get a rough idea when built, look at the date stamped on the side edge of the hood (if not repainted over, and is the original). It should be within a month before the build date.

Re: Build Date
Thank you 90TA for the tag info.I've wondered when it's use was discontinued,I had thought '86 since i Haven't seen it mentioned after, after the SPID went into use in '84.It would have been nice if both were kept. The trim tag does provide vital basic info.

Re: Build Date
The hood on the car is not the original hood. Somebody put a Iroc Daytona/Turbo hood on it before I bought it and I had to get my louver hood out of the junkyard for it.

Re: Build Date
Well the closest thing I have for reference is an '85 VIN thats about 300 behind yours, 151816 with a build date of 4-85. Also this car is noted as having no trim tag.

Re: Build Date
Ok I have been digging into decoding 1986 cars specifically. I have notice that only car made in California have the build date tag on the radiator support passenger side. Anyone else notice this tread and does it follow thru with the other years. I am not seeing them on Ohio built cars

Maybe Norwood used them up faster. Love these little quirks about our cars and oddball stories about what went in in these factories. Share if you learn anything more.

Re: Build Date
judging from the last 6 of your VIN, the car was built in May 1985. To get closer than that you would need to send for a copy of the Vehicle's invoice, You can receive it from a company named Allied-Vaughn, they can be reached at 952-832-3100. The last one I got ran about $75
