1982 T/A says HELLO and has some questions.....
Hy guys!
I am Mike from Austria and I own this car:
Its a 1982 Trans Am Coupe with 63640 Miles on it and is completely stock. The VIN is XXXXXXXXXXXXX (yes I decodet it).
I planned to make a Knight Rider Replica (K.A.R.R.) BUT then I found this:
So it seems that it was Black Gold.
My Problem is that I have NO RPO-Sticker (or I cant find it). I also looked under the seats, but I don think there is the paper.
Is the car to rare to build a Knight Rider Replica
Or, restore it to B/G AND make a Replica (only exterior) I could make it like this:
What to you think should i do?
Where can I find the RPO-Codes - I hope this is possible!
I wanna know ALL about my car
Sorry for bad english.

You need to contact Pontiac Historic Services to find out the info on your car. The SPID sheet wasn't included until 84, so you wouldn't of found one even when the car was new.

Myself and a friend (we both own 1983 Firebirds) found our original build sheets under the carpet on the passenger side. You need to take the passenger seat out to pull the carpet up enough to find it (if it is there).

Nice looking car...It would appear that it was a black and gold T/A.
The upper and lower paint codes are both 19 which is black. The accent color that follows is 55M which is Goldwing Metallic. The "E" means enamel paint.
The 64R means you have a Vinyl Interior ("R") and 64 means "Med Doeskin/Dk Doeskin" Also it looks like you have the standard interior vs. the Luxury interior RPO B20 which would give you the open headrest style seats. The AR9 RPO just means "Recliner Bucket" and does not stand for the "Luxury seats" as they are also a Recliner Bucket style. WS4 is the "Trans Am" option, D80 is the spoiler option.
The build sheets for these cars can be anywhere...under the seats, behind door panels, under the gas tank, under the carpet, etc....unless you tear the car apart you probably wont find it. Sometimes these cars didn't even come with one. PHS is the only way to know for sure what options your car have, unless you do happen to find the build sheet.
As far as rarity goes, it's just a black and gold TA. There really isn't anything rare about it. I don't know how people think that just because it's black and gold that it is rare. Maybe people get confused about the Recaro T/A's that were only black and gold. I don't know...
As far as making a "KITT" out of it, I am very against people doing that to these cars, or any TA for that matter. Since I own an '82 Black and Gold T/A, I know how hard it is to get/find parts...however it is your car and you can do what you want with it. Since you have an '82 with everything there minus the seats, you are already ahead. And you'll need the caps too, unless you do have them.
Hope this helped.

man that is a very nice original car damn i hope you dont do anything like that to it
you should be so lucky as to have such a sharp badass original car, i see nothing that needs to be done to it, at all, but ppl never seem ot be happy with anything even if its nice like yours,
enjoy it as it is, in its original glory, i wish my 82 was even just 20% as nice as yours, no others exist around here, at all, not a single other 82
for real...
sigh
good luck though
welcome to TGO

I just found my build sheet under the carpet on the passenger side. It was stuck to the black goo they use to seal the body, but it mostly came out, mostly. Seems to be somewhat common for Norwood built cars to have the build in the carpet and Van Nuys built cars in the seat. But they could be anywhere if at all.

I hope that I find the build sheet, if not, I will aks the Pontiac Historic Service
Its very hard for a Knight Rider Fan to leave the car stock, but I think its better.
I found a very big "Knight Rider Source", a Car Museum 10 minutes away from me. They bought 1987 five Cars from the Universal Studios and from one of them I have the Dash and the Hubcaps (yes, from an filmcar).
My next plan is to buy 15" Turbo Cast Rims to fit the Hubcaps from the filmcar on my car. At the moment I only have three 14" Hubcaps for my 14" TCR´s and that really sucks.
On my homepage you can find some pictures from my cars and from a car from the tv series --> www.members.aon.at/sainz
ALL!

Another point against the KITT clone is that the front fascia limits your speed (the wind will catch it and break it) and the KITT steering wheel will hit your knees. If you want to drive it, leave it alone, if you want to look at it in the driveway, clone it. Besides, it costs a fortune to clone the KITT car...and it doesn't improve driveability one bit. Nice car though, enjoy!

I like Knight Rider but would never do a conversion; I’m a bigger fan of stock cars by fair. But that’s just me. I don't have a problem with KITT conversions but if I where to vote I’d say go stock.
The KITT steering wheel is illegal for use on public roads in the US, not sure about Austria, US federal law requires steering wheels to be round, not necessary a circle but at least one continues grip.
You could do a quick release wheel, stock for driving and gullwing for show.

I was looking at your pics some more, it looks like you have a really stripped down TA. No power options, like windows, or side mirrors, no rear defrost, basic interior, 14" wheels... Kind of strange, although mine doesn't have the rear defrost either. What kind of engine, crossfire or carb?

My car actually came with the knight rider front end and all kinds of useless wiring when I got it. It's not a T/A, but the first thing I did was rip off that silly nose and found a stock one! I like it much better!

STOP
I never wrote that I will put the Dash and the Gullwing into the car.
When, then I will fit ONLY the KR-Nose and the Lectric-Scanner - thats all (but there are to many changes on the car to fit the scanner).
But you guys are right. The car is too rare for such a kind of "pimping"
@ 1982TA: Yes, my car is completely naked
I hope I find the build sheet. Thank you for your comments.
Wallpapers from my and ownors 84 T/A are comming soon

I think if he wants to do the KR conversion, go for it. I sure am with mine. I sold a General Lee 2 years ago and guarentee you if I come accross another Charger it will be a General Lee. I love it when people hate on TV cars it makes me more motivated to finish mine.

That maybe true but I wasn't the only one that responded to HE,HE. Well I gotta go back to the garage and continue putting KITT back together. He just got out of the paint shop.

Oh and as far as the federal motor laws. I live in the great state of TN. They don't apply, no emmisions laws, no vehicle inspection. Hell here I don't even have to produce a driver's license to get a tag, but yes I have one.
