How common of a car?
This is my un-molested IROC RPO Codes. The interior is mint, but the exterior has the poor GM clear coat paint peelings. It is completely unmodified.
Basics:1988 IROC 305/T5 Gunmetal Gray/Black int
I decoded my RPO for everyone to see.
Also i got this thing as a project car, i plan on taking out the 305/t5 and putting in a 350/t-56. I am aiming for 450-50 rwhp, but i am also torn between just rebuilding the motor and keeping it as a future classic. I want to do both I am going to keep the 305/t-5 in a shed if i pull them, but.....

while I am sure it is a nice car, it doesn't really have alot of options or desirable ones that I would think would make it a highly desirable classic. Plus it would have to be a low milage vehicle to really make it desirable, I'd say under 50,000 miles - and even thats getting high.
again with that being said, I'm sure its still a nice car. post up some pics!

I agree with Brisk. It a little unique because it's got a a TPI/5speed. Other than that, it's not a highly optioned car. And from the sounds of the interior, its got a decent amount of miles. Maybe 70k-90k? I'd say rebuild the 305. But then again, I'm somewhat of a stock ****. If not, I'll take it off your hand for my 6/cyl or drop it in the 88 iroc vert.

I'd say it's a keeper. If the car gets restored, the original mileage is no longer an issue. As long as the restoration is accurate and complete. This car has 305TPI/5speed, ttops, cruise, tilt, PW, PL and posi. If it had the 16" rims, it'd be an ideal setup. If this were my car, I'd add the rims and make it to be what was available in 88. If you build up a motor, keep the original somewhere. The gunmetal 88s are not seen very much and are one of the nicest looking colors IMO. Enjoy.

I agree with Scott on this one, THe car will be worth more as an all original.

I kinda want to take this tread to a different direction,
My car is completely bone stock origional. It does have high miles and it wil be re-painted, so i realize it already lost "collector quality" value. But i can't afford that anyways and i wanted to buy a nice origional 5 speed. I paid $2400 for it and as far as i can tell there is no rust, another quality i was looking for. My plans for it include: 383 + stealth ram, T-56, probably a different rear + disc brakes (I think i have a 10 bolt), beef up suspension/overhall it(new bushings/springs/sfc...etc) also replace obvious things i come across while in the process. I am going to leave the interior alone, it is mint! The guy has wore out two sets of seatcovers, but the seats are in A++ shape. While i had the engine/tranny out i figured i would take it to a shop and get some new blue paint on all around. I'm typing fast, so i'll edit later, but this leads to a few questions i'd like people's opinion on:
1. This is the biggest thing that bugs me, Are the above things mentioned enough to "restore" this baby? am i over looking something major? I know i'll be nickel and dimed to death on little stuff.
2. I like the blue color, not sure what code it is(it did come factory on 3rd gens), but it kinda looks purple-ish blue-ish. More blue than purple though. i know it would cost more $ to change the color, especially since right now i probably wouldn't have to paint the engine bay if i kept it gray...maybe? I like the gray, but i like the blue somewhat better. I've have to paint it either way and i have the money, but...... Throw some toughts out there for me to think about....
3. Throw out some suggestions for me to mod my car with! Nothing is ordered yet. One thing i am thinkin about is 91+ gfx. In the end i wanna end up with a nice lookin, fast, awesome show car. But not so showcar i can't whoop a 'stang now and then...or a vett I wanna get this thing done this summer.
Army is coming up late fall....
Man, am i long-winded.....

I personally like the charcoal gray color, I would probably stick with that because it would keep the originality of the car. I think once you got the car painted it would change your mind. The truth is new paint, no matter the color can really change how a car looks.
The 91-92 GFX are a nice touch, but remember that they also had the highrise spoiler, if you use your standard spoiler then it might look like an RS.
just a thought.

Ya the aluminum driveshaft----Is that an iroc option, or something else? I know 1LE had them, but the regular camaros and iroc's didn't i thought.... Doesn't matter too much though. I never bought this thing for collector quality, i just wanted something more "rare" so to speak, than not. If i ever need to sell it, maybe i can get a little more money for it. I kinda typed that different in my origional post than what i had in mind. I'll try and get some pics up when i can shovel out the 3 foot drifts around it....

so i finally got off my butt and it is aluminum, which it should be since it is on the rpo sheet. Anybody know why this somewhat "basic" car would have an aluminum driveshaft? Also i have 2 RPO's that don't decode on the program on the site... "9NC" and "EXP" Probably some color code, but i'd like to know...
Anyone?
Anyone?

hey all, just bought an 87 iroc with 48000 miles on the clock, engine is seized..was the car worth it? I paid $500 bucks for it, i think im ahead so far, but i'll leave my rpo codes here for you guys to tell me.. unfortunately i dont have a way to decode them and post, as my printer is shot, and the decoder will only print, not save.

Hi! You should post this as a new topic. It would get more exposure than piggy-backing on this older topic. Just trying to get you the most help possible.
