as strange as it is to say it 80k miles is a medium right now with 130k miles to be about the average for a well used thirdgen. i've bought several 170-90k parts cars and despite what anyone says they don't seem to hold up that well with those kind of miles and have everything original.

That guy is smoking dope for asking that price. I do not care if it was a KITT giveaway.

I wonder how many packs the owner had to smoke to win that car?

It's nothing special, Jeff. It was a run of the mill car. They put little badges on the car behind the front wheels that are the Marlboro logo. I think there was also something on the rear bumper. It was just a giveaway car as a promotion. I believe they were all red, too. Go figure.

Original owner probably died of lung cancer, and the car has cigarette burns all over the seats.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

It seems to me that a giveaway car would get more respect from you folks. That would make it 1 of what?...10 or so??? From a smoke company or not that makes 1 rare and unusual. Funny, the GMC syclone guys have a soft spot for those give away trucks. So what if its not a 1le or a Firehawk, its still part of our third gen history. SHAME.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

The difference between these and the Syclones is the Syclones were special model cars that were only available in black for 1991. The giveaway cars were red, had conversions done to the body, had a Turbocharged engine, special rims, etc on an already limited production vehicle. These cars were standard red IROC-Zs, no special limited edition features or options, and were purchased as regular cars and had badges added. What makes that so special? Marlboro probably spent less than $100 each on the IROC-Z giveaways. I too would hold a 1991 Syclone Marlboro giveaway car in high regard because there were only 9 more like it. There were thousands identical to the Marlboro IROC-Z.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

The only thing done to the syclone was a t-top conversion and boyd wheels. All syclones and typhoons were turbocharged. I had not heard of these cars untill this post and would like to see one. BTY, syclones were 91 and 92, and they would eat a vette in the 1/4. They were and still are the quickest production trucks in the world, yes the SRT10 is faster not quicker. I happen to have a story about the Marlboro syclone that was in the Jan 06 Hemming Muscle machines. I just thought that a giveaway car should be more respected by the folks who claim to love all third gens. So what if it just has badges and not much else, the 15th ann. T/A just had badges. OK and seats but so what?? The question is...IS IT COOL?? I vote yes. Is it rare?? Again I vote yes. Just becouse they had the name of an evil cigarette company on it is no reason to put them down.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

Link doesn't show the car.
Does anyone have a picture to show?
I have a few second gen cars, converted by the dealerships, and some people like them, some don't.
Doesn't bother me, I like them, that's why I bought them.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

Is anybody putting them down because they are Marlboro cars? I haven't seen that gripe yet!! The Syclones were limited to about 3000 made making them limited production vehicles. How many IROC-Zs were made? Not limited production by any means. Of those 3000, only 10 were made for Marlboro. They were red when the rest of the 91 production run was black. They had TTops when the rest of the 3000 did not. They also had Recaro racing seats added, which the rest of the 3000 did not. They had Boyd rims, which the rest of the 3000 did not. They had custom Momo steering wheels and custom exhaust that the rest of the 3000 did not. I can go on. Now let's look at the IROC-Z. It had the same seats as every other IROC-Z, the same steering wheel, the same exhaust, the same rims, the same paint, the same engine and the same everything! What makes the Marlboro IROC-Z special, nothing. What makes the Marlboro Syclone special, a lot of things. They are totally different promotional optioned vehicles.

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

True that the Syclone had more mods. I was talking about the remarks of "the owner died of lung cancer and the seats are full of burns". But the point was, and still is, that those cars ARE rare and deserve some respect. It really wouldn't be any different if they were given away by Pepsi or another company. Although Pepsi might include brittney's panties. After all, some folks on this site love the iron duke. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but these cars are part of our third gen culture. If you want to look at them from a "production" stand point then all of our convertables are worthless as well. After all Scott, they were mere t-top cars that were converted after they left the factory. Everyone is entiteled to there opinion, and we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Have a nice day. Mr. turbo, I'd LOVE to see a pic of your car.

Yah the Marlboro car is no different than me slapping "Aaron rules" stickers on 10 cars back in the 80's and saying it was "rare".

Re: Marlboro Give away thirdgen

The above link doesn't work for me, however I do not think these are special cars at all. They gave away 50 of these cars, 5 per sales region with 10 regions. They were all IROC-Z convertibles estimated at $24,000 each. To win, you had to be a smoker and 21 years of age. Residents of Michigan were not allowed to enter the constest for whatever reason.

I found this info from the official entery form that was distributed at the time:
http://tobaccodocuments.org/pm/2048685818.html?pattern=camaro[a-z]*|iroc[a-z]*&#p1

Regardless if this was given away by Marlboro/Philip Morris it is still just an IROC-Z convertible. I don't know what options these cars had, and if they had Marlboro badges on them or not. Are they rare?? Only if you are saying they have Marlboro badges on them... so what. It shouldn't make the car more valuable because nothing was done to these cars to make them special in anyway other than giving them away and putting a brand name on them.

Funny, I don't remember saying that they were valueable. I said they are rare. How many of you have SEEN one??? On the subject of rare, lets see... say it was 1988, 3761 were built, of those 50 were given away and IF they had special badges..... you do the math. As far as value goes, since it was brought up, tell the pace car or anniversary guys that there cars are no more valuable then there "normal" counterparts. Compare the price today and you might have a different perspective in value. But that wasn't my point. Seeing a AMC pacer that runs is rare, doesn't make it valueable. Maybe I should make my point this way..if you were going to buy an 84 Trans am, and you saw 2 that were identcal in every way but 1 was an anniversary car and they were the same price, which would you buy?? Remember that I have said that I had not seen or heard of these untill this post, but IF it had some sort of special badge on it then it MAY be worth more to a collector. Are these $100,000 cars, hell no. But again, that wasn't MY piont. Aaron, if you were a major corporation, or race car driver that gave away 10 cars to people, then yes, it would be rare. Ask the folks that bought the 20 or so Jeff Gordon Monte Carlo's if they think that what they have is rare. Again, we just have to agree to disagree.
