carfax sonfused me...
looked up my car on carfax...
it says...
"1988 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM/GTA (1G2FW21E7JL226216)"
So my car is a GTA? or what?
there where 16 records, mostly updates and transfers with to failed emissions...
deleted content...no sharing carfax accounts. It's a violation of their user agreements.

It does that for some reason for example my 91 is a base firebird with a 305 but it says "Firebird/Formula, doesn't mean it's an actual Formula.
Im guessing yours must be a TA.

the vin's dont actually distinguish between trans am/gta and firebird/formula. Theres a vin digit for the model and one of the digits signifies Trans Am OR GTA and the other digit signifies Firebird or Formula. if that makes any sense. someone will probably be able to explain it better...

So how can i find out if its a GTA?
the hood was efertmarket when i got it, he removed all badging and decals etc... and he put a different hatch on it because his rear window got broke and a whole hatch was cheaper so...

there should be something in the vin or RPO codes but idk much about pontiac third gens...deleted content. No carfax requests allowed on TGO.

Don't give up so hastily. Contact Pontiac Historical Services, give them your VIN number, and they'll send you everything they have on your car. Things like the dealer invoice, build sheet, etc. Definitely worth a look.

Your car isn't a GTA because the 8th digit in all GTA's was "F" for 305 TPI or "8" for 350 TPI. Since yours in an "E", yours would be a 305 TBI.
