CARFAX vs AutoCheck
I am interested in purchasing a rather low miles 89 Formula But inlies a problem. Both CARFAX and Autocheck come back with a clean bill of health, but the miles on both of them are out of whack. What is your opinion?
CARFAX Mialages:
09/08/1989 - 36
05/15/1991 - 2,000
05/27/1994 - 5,000
06/05/1998 - 7,679
06/12/2000 - 17,451
06/05/2002 - 21,993
--- some other readings
11/13/2004 - 25,223
-----------------------
AutoCheck reports the following SAME VIN
05/15/1991 - 2000
05/27/1994 - 5000
05/25/1995 - 63,000
07/29/1998 - 76,500
No more readings.
As you can see there is a problem with the readings... IF you combine the two here is what you get:
09/08/1989 - 36 - Sales Contract
05/15/1991 - 2,000 - Emissions Inspection Station
05/27/1994 - 5,000 - Emissions Inspection Station
05/25/1995 - 63,000 - Emissions Inspection Station
06/05/1998 - 7,679 - Emissions & Safety Inspection Station
07/29/1998 - 76,500 - TITLE
06/12/2000 - 17,451 -Safety Inspection Station
...
It appears as though the 2 high readings someone was not careful and added an extra Zero when they entered them...
The Odometer reads 32,xxx miles now...
What are our thoughts, I think its a legit 32K miles car personally.
EITHER way the CARFAX and AutoCheck systems have proven to me to be worthless...

I agree with you. On 5/25 the person hit the 0 key once more than needed and it put the others out of wack. I had a woman at the title office put 141k on the title of a 41k 81 monte carlo once. I knew the original owner and know the miles are legit but she wanted to argue.
