the common bond fbody owner have
i pulled up to a firebird formula tonight. i told the owner "nice car", i said he also like my ride. i asked him what year, it was a 91 formula 305. i told him my RS 305 came from north carolina and he said his car was never winter driven. it looked awesome it was black completely mint. my car is clean and looks decent but i want to eventually get her repainted, it has 146K so its got flaws in the paint. time and money will take car of that. i just think its cool to have common bond with people i dont even know. i wouldnt have had a stoplight conversation with this fellow fbody owner if he didnt have one.

yeah, i've noticed that too. When im driving and another F-body drives by, were always lookin at each others cars and every once in a while I get a nod. And especially on cruise night, F-body owners are always talkin n meetin new ones.

Yup, I'll throw up the horns or a thumps up at some people, and get the same in return, or they'll do it first. Even get the occaisonal guy pull up and start a conversation.
I love it.

its just not our cars but if you go to a car show & Talk to anyone about any car they happen to own believe me there is a bond there.
Heck I was talking to ford owners today at a car show that not only love the cars they own but love all cars & I am a Die hard GM fan all the way around.
I get the thumbs up, the Nod, the wave, the horn honk the NICE CAR out the window in almost every car I drive (ok maybe not my Metro or my 99 Silverado truck but the other 5 cars I own.)

i was driving my v6 car a while back, it's not in the best shape but i keep it running realy well. infront of me is an elcamino, 70ish. in the other lane there is what appears to be an older chevy (late 50s-mid 60s) one waves and the other gives the "thumbs up"... i was like "how come no one cares about htirdgens".. i usualy don't even see other thirdgen owners look at my car.
then i bought a black GTA....
now i get "nice car" almost weekly. gas station attendants (they pump it for you in Oregon, usualy spilling on the car ) tell me about the one they "used to have"... then there are of course the "wow it's Knight Rider" remarks i almost wish it were not black...... almost
i was at a car show a few weeks ago and spent the better part of a halfhour talking to a guy about his 76 formula, he even had pictures. it was realy cool. whole thing started cause we were both looking at a 78TA that was in the parking lot, not even entered in the show. i felt like i was part of somthing big.

I don't see too many Fbody drivers around my way either. The ones I do see are rather decrepit, and the drivers are running them into the ground. Such a shame too... Makes more work for me when I buy their car

I wave, nod, thumbs up -- whatever feels right at the moment to fellow f-body drivers but it's a rare day for one to do the same back. Bugs the heck out of me sometimes, because I think these cars are pretty nice, especially the third gens compared to other sport cars that came out of the 80's.
However, every day I get comments from other drivers about my car wanting to know what year is it, sounds good, looks good, do I go to ???? show, do I race, etc., etc., etc. Even the b/f has noticed how people just feel free to start talking to me at lights, in parking lots, etc. I told him it's my friendly face, lol.

you guys are lucky, in my town, there are about twice as many mustangs as camaros. Plus, there are only two V6 camaros in my town of 8500, MIne and my buddies 95 with a performance V6 that will smoke any V8. But its Kinda fun just puttin around town in a car that no body gives a **** about(that is until i put my 350 in).

Have met quite a few on the highway, always a look and a nod and then laughing as we see the looks two mint 3rd gens get going thru traffic (especially when both are black 'birds). There is a guy I've been seeing lately with a beautiful sounding 4th gen Camaro who revs it nearly to red line every time we pass just to see the smile on my face.

yeah, i usualy flash my gat, you know thats kust how i roll...
i somtimes throw ithe 700r4 into neutral and giver' 4K to get the pipes a rumblin if i am in the GTA and another thirdgen is near me. saw this "Latino/import" style 91-92 bird (3.1 by the sound i think). his car looks stupid, but i rev up the GTA as i come next to him, i give him a nod and slowly pass him (my traffic was moving faster). well i guess he thought it was a challange, he gos into my lane and passes the truck infront of him, (about five car lengths back at this point) and then floors it to pass me.. i of course maintain my 35MPH and he does the old "R1C3R flyby" at around 50 and takes the next right....
usualy i get a revup in return and a nod...

I remember when I had a 95 Formula convert, With the top down cruising around there were a ton of 4th gens verts around We always waved, it was like I was riding a motorcycle, they do the same thing. Unfortunately I do not get as many looks in my 87 Formula tho. I don't care I like it anyways.

I usually get the ghetto Mexican or Black dude or ******* who has their crap run into the ground try to peel out in front of me or near me.
Nobody takes 3rd gens seriously around here. Mine is probably the nicest one I have seen in this area, and that's not saying much.

I sometimes see a few third/fourth gens around, but ive never gotten a nod or anything back. Only once did a second gen iroc-z throttle past me as i made a turn, but that was about it.

today i pulled up next to a stock v6 camaro...black, hardtop. looked pretty nice. inched up a bit to get parallel to his pass. window. his friends drove, going the other direction, honked and flipped him the bird...i said, nice friends ya got there. he just laughed. asked me what year my bird was. told him it was a 2000, just got her back from the shop b/c of an oil leak. asked him what year his was...dont quite remember, 95 i beleive? so an early 4th gen...my light turned green, gave the tires a nice chirp and went straight...he turned left...and we went on our way.
nice to see someone who cares about their cars. i see some old women driving 4th gens, a little "daddy's little girl" blonde's driving 3rd gens...i get irritated whenever i see a girl driving a fast, sleek, sporty car...i picture chicks to be in hondas and jettas...then i remind myself what a hipacrit i am...and i own three of these cars. i wonder if guys ever look at me when i drive by and go, "pfttt...whats a chick doing driving that..." but little do they know that i have 2 more at home being worked on, and i go to school for collision repair. lol.
so that was my encounter today...

A rare find, indeed. Im currently in High School taking Auto Shop. There are a few girls in my class. I have yet to found a girl who takes the classes seriously.
Back On topic,
I usually see 3rd Gens while Im driving. And for some reason, they're always on the opposite side of the road. So I cant give a nod, or the horns. It's real rare to find a 3rd Gen in my area nowadays. I cant wait until I get mine.

and rick, i wasnt saying b/c my driving is "scary." im saying that most guys probably go "pfft. whats a girl doing driving that???" b/c they think im probably not a real car chick...but in real life, i am...not some dumb blonde.
nothing to do with my "driving" or whatever...and i just typically know my car too well...so i drive a little less conservativly...

I know Liz I'm just messing with you... you aren't as bad as me yet.. that's all I am scared about :-X It just sucks 'cause, as you are kind of hinting at here, a lot of girls who know "nothing" drive nice cars. I've seen too many "old" ladies in Camaro SS' You ask them anything about the car and I'd be surprised if they even know what make a Camaro is... *insert eye roll smiley here*
yea, ussually most of them are in it "to meet guys." my school gave me a hard time when i tried to join the class b/c of that.

I'm usually on the lookout for 3rd-4th gen Firebirds and Camaros.
Around my area, there are a LOT of ragged out 3rd gens for some reason. Very rarely do you see one that's nice or you can tell is a work in progress. Stuck up girls usually have the 4th Gen TA's, and they're usually good cars except for all the crud they like to put in the inside and on the rearview.
I think the bond can be seen by anyone that cares much for their car. If the person cares about it, then they'll want to know more about their car.

here I think its more common to rev to another f-body, since most of them around here have mods and sound good. Other than that., I think its fun to drive around and even the little kids walking down the street will be like"NICE CAR" as I drive by. We are roll models. When I was younder I was always like man they are lucky thats a nice car. Now were livin it.

Car: 87 Firebird with T-tops
Engine: 350 finally!
Transmission: 4spd auto
Axle/Gears: sometimes I get traction...
A few times whilst driving my firebird I've had young kids & teenagers wave & yell out to me to "light 'er up!" or "Do a burnout". Quite illegal 'round here & results in confiscation of your car if caught (also a bit hard to deny it was me if I did it as mine is bright yellow and not real common in Australia).
Still gives me the warm fuzzies knowing that someone else likes my car.

What a cool thread, I had a similar thing happen tonight. The first night I've really spent a lot of time cruisin in my car since I got it, and I saw ths GORGEOUS maroon red GTA, and it's some punk kid about my age driving it, and I sorta rumbled through this parking lot to catch up with him (it was on my way anyway) and I see him comin back around towards me and we exchanged nod-waves... or... naves?
Either way, my car is in GREAT shape for its mileage, it was the only reason I could afford a car that nice, honestly, but that guys car was gorgeous and appeared to be MINT. I was honored he waved back...

And to make matters worse, I'm usually in my truck, and I want to wave and say "Nice car man!" but they'd wonder why some hippie in a truck is giving them a thumbs up with a bizarre grin for no reason.
I saw a junky 88-89 RS the other day, clearcoat peeling, the works, but the bodywork was fine, and you could hear L03 rumbling within, and I wanted to tell the dude I liked his car, but since there was no quick way to say I had one too, he'd probably think I was pokin fun at it, but I just love any third gen. It hurt me to the bone seeing Jeremy Clarkson beat the crap out of hte 91 RS on Top Gear...
